Looking for a new Operating System?

LindowsOS :D


Since LindowsOS is a Debian Linux distribution it runs Linux-based programs. (Some applications like RPM-based packages may require a file converter such as ALIEN.)

While LindowsOS does not natively run Microsoft Windows applications, you may be able to run some Microsoft Windows programs after you've installed WINE

No MAC :(

Why don't you try VMware it can run one OS atop another; with VMware, you run Office on Windows, which in turn runs on top of Linux..

Don't mean to bring back an old thread (even if it isn't that old, it's flashing me so it counts :P) but I noticed an error that some other people might get confused by:

This isn't true because the mac is still on PPC so that means ALL the assembly code would be different. The programs for Mac also would look for things that are mac specific, so it wouldn't work. Java and python and other languages like that (I forgot what you call those types) are the only types of programs that would work because the code is the same no matter what OS you are on.

Actually, most UNIX programs have begun beng ported to Mac OS X. As for Assembler....Name a few programs you use that were actually written in assembler.

The term I think you're looking for is called "Platform independent"...Or "Pain in the ass".

I know a few Mac people who use *NIX based tools, and a few who have started using them because the tools for BSD seem to work fine. I don't use Macs so I'm not going to say every tool works, but from what I understand, they a lot of the apps have been ported already. I didn't say you could load up a BSD tool on a Mac, I meant they have been ported.
