this was in Time magazine. I think that is absolutely wrong and pathetic. The way the war coverage was for alot of things, Saddam could have turned on CNN and found out exactly what we were going to do. Frankly I don't think wars should ever be play by play as they seem to be some sort of a sport for reporters these days. I like the coverage during the first Gulf War, being that the reporters were only given access to so much information that was time critical, and weren't allowed to be embedded with the troops.

At the same time a notable exception in the press leakage, was when President Bush went to Baghdad Airport to serve Thanksgiving dinner to the troops. That was truly exceptional press, as they waited to break the story. Had that been reported, every insurgent in Iraq would have been coming up to pop a shot at the President. IMO thats the way it should be. Basic decency of the press, and concern for security should always take precidence over breaking the story.

I wouldn't joke like that, they were having a political debate on my friends Live Journal and a joke was made such as "a bullet would take care of that problem" and they were investigated by the secret service.

Just thought it was interesting that alot of folks might not know that there is a whole big line of succession to the Presidency.

However I think Info is correct that such jokes won't be taken so lightly by the Secret Service.

I do not understand the media's love for giving out information like this... Do they WISH for the nation to end because their dumb***es let something important out? Do they not think that terrorists record CNN and all the other major news networks 24/7?

When will the maddness end? Proably only once we all move to china...

GRUNT, the assassination of the president or vice president would not endthe nation, we have survived taht before and will survive it again...more over how is conferming the location that chany used(and would be unlikely to use again for that reason) a threat to him?

You are right bballad, it does have a short memory. They forget history leading to events because technology and those who control it have them in their grasp for the "moment". Weather Socialist, liberal, conservative, or one of many other viewpoints.

detailing government hidey holes is not a smart thing. Even if it's Al Gore who is there. It's not related to Cheney. It's related to the past present and future.

For the record I dont even consider Geraldo (note the spelling) a real reporter.

The local press keeping their mouth shut because they "may" have known where Cheney was is a good thing. Time magazine hosting an article about where he is, is a bad thing. Why not go ahead and give tactics on how to assault the place, or a good satellite photo of it. Thats as bad as I see this thing.

Thanks for your response, the situation is somewhat similar over here, there is a long line of succession.

The only problem I can see for you guys is that you would need to hold elections?

Over here we vote for the political party, and it is their members of parliament who choose the prime minister. So if our guy were wiped out, the party would just appoint replacements in a few days without the need to go to the electorate.
