Heh heh, sorry, and I'm the one who typically barks at people for getting off topic!
Anyway, back on topic, I also see a lot of new blood coming in who show promise though, like yourself. Hopefully the next generation of AO people (and I'm still pretty new myself, relative to the others) will have a better handle on things, along with the senior members left who haven't run away or gone wacko.
Maybe we need a "How NOT to Deal with Problem Members Thread". ;) Give 'em a neg, report to a mod, set to "ignore" if you need to, then forget 'em and move on.
And I say this from recent experience, as I'm one of the idiots who actually thought he could open up dialogue with the offenders to help calm things down. DON'T DO THAT! Neg, report, forget.
Or just ignore, negs may cause wars, and we don't want that do we. ! :)

Good point Nem, negs can start wars, and I should've mentioned that. Negs are good to use in the spirit of self-moderating the site, but keep two things in mind before you use them:
1) Just neg and give your reason, no insults/flames/whatever added. "Did not contribute to thread", "violated AO policy", "website abuse", things like that, then leave it at that. Hopefully that'll be that, but often more likely --
2) Hotheaded offender will seek revenge, and so starts the AP war. If you don't care about getting negged back, then neg the one time, then ignore them, and ignore their negs to you, and don't neg them any further (the first time's enough). Report revenge negs to the mods, and leave it in their court from there.
But yeah, sometimes it's best (and safer) just to forget the APs and report them.
Ao is quite tame troll wise compared to some of the trolls I remember. Just ignore the crap, I pretty much will only look into one of the drama threads if its been reported. They are pretty dull after a few years...;)
