Back to the important thing, how long did it take you to fix the computer HT, and you know which one I am talking about. I don't think I could of done that, main reason. Hmm...I have pretty much done things for free for my friends and family as well. I've charged $100 for about a couple of hours of spyware/virus removal and reformating to people I don't know.

Pretty much...the reward I get for doing work for friends is food and drinks whenever we go out :) Thats enough for me.

On the back of my business card I have $50 for spyware/ad-ware/virus removal, $45 for Hardware/Software Installations and $35/hr Min 1Hour for repairs.
Thats if they are not my friends pretty much....Besides, I don't need to give my friends my business card although they do find me customers quite often.

I look after ResNet in a University residence and I get 2-3 people a day asking me for help. I am only getting paid to do 5-10 hours of network/lab related work a week so any hardware/software stuff is on my own time.

I'm a nice guy so I do my best to help out when I can, but since everyone assumes it is part of my ResNet job, they give me squat. On the upside I've made a few friends this way (although they are the technologically retarded type). I guess friends are better than money or gifts though!

That's it, I'm gettin my own business card. I've been helping random people out for months now....I got a call from a doctor's office last week cuz they couldn't access their own computer cuz they forgot the password and there was important information on it that they had to access and they wanted to transfer it to a newer computer....a friend of mine's *mom* called me and I'd never even met her, lol. I didn't charge and all I got was a thank you, which was cool and I know they'll tell more people about me, which is very cool but I think I'm gonna actually try and make some money off things like this...be a capitalist :deal: Any suggestions for how I should go about doing this?

Sure, Its very helpful, and people will always have a way to contact you for more jobs :)...or to bitch about something you did lol.

All you need is a Color printer, a business card maker from http://www.download.com or just use Word, and some business cards...

You can also order them online, they're not too expensive. I'd rather make my own, since I'm part owner in 2 other businesses....i'd rather not pay for 3 different business cards ;)

Rock on, thanks man! My only concern is that it'll be too much of a drain on my time...especially when I'm in school *and* working. I'll have to get a scheduler or something at least so I can keep everything straight....I'm not known for being very organized, lol.

I was the same way, I thought I didn't have time. However once I started to work between 50 - 60 hrs a week for a company, full-time college student going for my Accountancy degree, girlfriend and other friends. I thought I didn't have time for my own business however I decided to cut out and compress the stuff I could so that I would be able to start my own business so... I got rid of the girlfriend I started my own business. However although I had my own business I was sorta lonely so I decided to go "hunting" :D ;) and well I found one that understands.

* I just got a new gift for fixing someones computer... This girl that wants it she works in a file department type deal and she needed some help with her comp.. so being nice I headed over to the DEPT and fixed her display settings and turned to walk away. She asked me out and denied her (I already got my baby and my baby right now is tight and lets me work and never has gotten jealous of the comp) so she then asked if I drank I told her "yeah" so she busted out this glass jug (gallon) with this homemade liquor her uncle makes and she was like here you can have it. So she wanted me to taste it I took a shot and damn.... It burnt like covasea (however you spell that). So I can't wait for tonight *
