Norton's parental control is easy to set up, and can be password protected. (Make it a REAL awkward one...) On my Symantec NetSec 2004, you merely add the words that you are blocking, and the default comes with all those 'embarassing' ones ready loaded.
Some people have REAL wierd jobs: Parents day could be a real nightmare... So, please tell us here what exactly you do at work ?
I...umm......write the rude words into the software...............:o

I have just thought of another problem.........
Filesharing..........won't she be able to download this stuff from friends, or sites that would probably not be blocked by policies or parental control software?
It is beginning to look as if the only way to be certain of preventing her would be to remove the software that plays them, and her ability to re-install it. Or block the downloading of those filetypes (but there are ways around that).
As I suggested before, the real problem is that she has been able to access this material before, and is bound to be suspicious when she no longer can. Even if she is not particularly computer literate herself, she must know someone who is,even if that is through a friend, or find someone on a helpsite on the net?
I honestly don't see how you can avoid a confrontation. As she will also probably notice any new software, particularly as most of it gives you a message saying what it has done (so you would need one with a silent blocking capability).
I am afraid that it is really a case of do you want the confrontation now, or later.
Good luck

Although you want to put these certain things in place to block her from accessing them she will eventually get wise to the fact and
A. - hate you for not telling her and lieing to her
B. - hate you for not telling her and lieing to her and finding away around it
Your best bet is to sit her down with the family discuss it and also tell her that you are going to be setting these certain things in place. This way she will not be mad at just you but your rents as well. You will also have told her that you will be watching every move she makes (Start singing the puff daddy "every move you make" rendition of the song). Your social engineering will shine during this one.

to give everyone an update what happened in the end is almost exactly what was posted in the last post...
There was a family "meeting" last night where everyone was forced to sit down and listen to what the others thoughts on the topic were... luckily she wasn't mad at me, just her parents (i am almost family - i am engaged to their other daughter and i rent their basement) so neway, she understands now why the sites are not coming up and also why she shouldn't have a webpage that gives a large amount of personal information.... especially of a 14 yr old.... neway... the blocks are going to be staying in place and she knows that i will be watching and adding onto our hosts file.... main reason: she is a teenager, and doesn't always follow the rules....
i was all for the beating with a stick idea ;)
