Seem's to me as if it was just some cheesy 'sploit and nothing more. The person ran it, and it did the effect (or minimal) and that's about it. I would take nihil's advice and scan for trojan's/viruses and spyware to be safe.

Sorry, I forgot to mention:

This is a link to part of the tutorials forum index (courtesy of Negative).
Please read the ones that relate to Windows in general and your OS in particular.................you might as well have a look at the WinME ones as well as the OSes are quite similar.
They will tell you how to harden (protect) your system.
By the way, did this guy tell you he had hacked your system AFTER you had mentioned the performance problem, or did he say that he had hacked you FIRST?
Also, has he at any time had unattended access to your PC?
And, have you at any time accepted any files, or received e-mails from him?
Cheers
proboy, fyi there's a great Intro To Linux tutorial at www.pureehosting.com . Linux runs great on older computers and it's much more secure-able than windows. Good luck with your security issue.

Sorry but I will take exception to that. It might be more securable if you know and understand Linux.Quote:

If you are brand new to linux then it will be more insecure than a fresh load of any windows system, which has basically the same amount of holes. Reason....you won't even know what to look for.
The key is to learn your operating system, no matter which one it is. If you know your os then you can harden it to most threats. If you are new to an os then you won't even be aware of the possible holes and exploitable gliches you might have.
Of course then, you won't even know you have been hacked and will feel very comfortable.
This is off topic, but: PureExtacy, don't you feel you promote your website a tad too much? Just wondering :D
You suck at marketing! :P There is no such thing as too much promoting of anything! Otherwise... you might lose a possible client or two.Quote:

well i hate to break it to you guys but you made this thread moot with your damn marketing discussion.
Regardless this isn't a place for marketing. Leave it to the mods to decide if someone is advertising too much.
I know your kidding, right? I'm fully aware that you should let as much people know of your business as possible.Quote:

Sorry, it bothered me that the pure dude kept linking EVERYTHING in the world to his cot damned website.Quote:

Naturally I was joking, and in no way did I aim to make a personal affront to you or anybody else, nor was it my intention to change the topic of the thread.Quote:

So, back to being hacked... I think we should get an update regarding the status of the problem?
