aim direct connect and fileshare dont work with router

While your point is true, Trillian has its bugs (but few), I still disagree. Trillian has several features I now find absolutely necessary to IMing that neither AIM nor MSN has. For the average home user, however, I can see where you're coming from. They just want something simple that works all the time and no hastle, but for more advanced user may they find them lacking.

Uhh kindly alert me of these "advanced feature's" that Trillian has for the "advanced user". Sure, I love looking for update's/patches and making sure everything is secure on my computer for every bit of software.. except IM application's? I mean come on, it's an IM application. Big whoop for features.

There is a alternative to trillian.... gaim. I have found that older versions of aim cannot direct connect with newer versions. Make sure that you have the latest version of trillian. You may just end up having to find another client.

i forwarded port 1863 and it still doesnt work. maybe ill try updating trillian(i havent in a while) or look into gaim. i really dont like seeing that aol logo or those stupid adverts they put everwhere... and trillian had that cool skin thing with the transparency.

There are many AIM client's that have window transparency and eliminate those AOL ad's (all the ad's actually). Look into DeadAIM, AIM+, and middle_man. The first two are available on downloads.com so you should definitely check them out. They have some neat features for AIM.

Perhaps you misunderstood my meaning of advanced. I meant more than just a newbie. I was not attempting to make myself look better than anyone else. If it appeared that way, please forgive me. Some of the features I find useful is the ability to create custom alerts when a certain contact signs online. You can have it play sounds or popup windows or both. Also, I much prefer Trillian's conversation logging over MSNs. It is a simple text file and I don't believe that AIM has a chat log at this point in time and I prefer my conversations to be logged. Perhaps they are not as big as I think they are, but they make my IMing experience much nicer. Alerts save me much hastle when I'm gaming. I no longer have to minimize in middle of the game to see if I want to chat with the person who signed on or not. (This is a very bad thing to do in the middle of Halo. :D )

/edit - Another one. With Trillian I can simply press Ctrl+Shift+A and it will show/hide the chat window depending upon whether or not it is shown or hidden at the moment. I was always checking who was online (I'm paranoid, ok?) and now I can check AIM and MSN in fraction of the time it used to take me.

Ok, thank you. AIM may have them, but MSN doesn't have the Alerts that I was talking about, AFAIK. I mean, there are things about Trillian that I find annoying and all, but overall, it fits me better. Personal opinion.
