grande_andy,
I was in your shoes a year ago and here are some of my suggestions...
* You need to use your guidence counsolers!!! They are your best friend!!! Most students turn a blind eye to this idea. Believe me if you do it will be a great mistake as they are your best assets. Their job is to get your butt outta thier school hehe.
* Start looking around for scholarships!!! If your a middle class white male like me then it will be the most frustrating thing in the world but I managed $2,000 from my school and an $11,000 grant (yes each year free money) from the school which I enrolled. Am I a genius? Hell no! On my final transcript I have a 90. Not bad but still, not a genius haha and I didn't take any 'smart' classes. You know what got me there? Not good grades but determination!!! This is the year that you have to buckle down. For you will be making decisions now that will effect the rest of your life!
* Ever heard of senioritis? Don't get it... trust me... work hard all year.
My intrests reflect the ones that you have stated. While some have said MIT is a great school no one has mentioned the best school of them all?
Rochester Institute of Technology!!! Currently an internationly recognised tech school that gives out an excellent education. If I remember hearing correctly MIT has modeled thier 'Applied Networking and Administration' program to RIT's.
I would give this school some serious thought if your looking into network security as I am, and get into the Applied Networking and Administration Program.
I will be attending school there this fall as a freshman! I can't wait, I have been on campus several time and walking into thier computer classrooms is the equivilant of having a technical orgasm! No joke! :D
So there's my two cents... here's a link www.rit.edu
Do yourself a favor and check it out. I am so excited to start classes there w00t!!!
