Since I have heard a few senior members react rather snidely regarding this post, I have decided to supply a few links for your edjumication:

I find it rather fascinating how some of these cheats actually work, and as I mentioned earlier, many of the techniques used are quite similar to what you see happening in the hacking world. Sure there is room to talk about exploits of actual software (gamespy, UT2k3, etc), but that isn't what I was referring to. These cheats actually tear into how the game works (engine) and how it interacts with the system (via directX) and almost all of it is open source.
And before you get delusions of grandeur, many, if not most, of the public cheats you will see are detectable (just like the exploits released publically are detectable via IDS) and if you enjoy playing those games online, you may wind up banned :) So don't blindly walk into and install them (and like alot of exploit code, make sure of what you are downloading, they could have malicious content).
And to be clear, I am not necessarily advocating a new forum, but I do feel there is merit to the topic I have mentioned.
Simply fascination. And career choice.Quote:
hey ,tell me frankly ,what really brought you into computers????
I pretty much hold Nebulus's take to it. Not sure about another forum, but it has some possibilities...as long as we look at gaming from a security standpoint, that is -- And there's plenty to look at there.
Problem is I do not think that many of the posts will be "gaming from a security standpoint". I think it will end up being a normal gaming section where people discuss games (granted I have nothing against that, I love talking about games as much as the next hardcore gamer). I do not think it really has a place at AO from the "mood" i have picked up especially the mood over my music forum idea.Quote:

That's what I'm afraid of. And as a big gamer myself, it's tempting, but nonetheless it just wouldn't fit here. There are tons upon tons of gaming forums elsewhere.
People have complained for ages about the site straying away from its roots, so I really see a gaming forum as another nail in the coffin. There are places out there devoted to gaming and would server far better as a dedicated platform for gaming posts than a forum here on AO would. Plus theres already GCC for all the post whoring; a gaming forum would just incite all the same old "this vs that", "which is better Nvidia or ATI" and the like.
