Interesting. Here's something to consider: here in Ontario, the rate of tax is so high on cigarettes that guess what the #1 thing is being stolen? Yup. Cigarettes. It's causing a bit of an increase in the crime rate (I'd give a source but this was on TV last night so I haven't found one directly yet). Although, it's apparently not a new issue
In a way that helps prove my point. Make the price of a drug so high that people have to steal for it, and there you are. Just like Dealers make drugs expensive when they shouldn't be. Legalise, lower the price, put a tax on them like you would any other thing in this country, and problem = solved.
I don't think that's necessarily true. Part of what needs to be considered is the culture of a society. The US has low taxes on alcohol and we do see rampant crime because of it. Looking at a recent story on the front of CNN where 6 people were killed over the theft of an Xbox and some clothes makes me wonder how mature the US culture would be and is to using drugs appropriately and safely.
In addition, to ensure quality, one would need appropriate checks and balances (something that we know doesn't exist now) to ensure that nothing else goes into the "product" that shouldn't. That will cause the price to go up. Personally, I don't think "legalization" is the one-and-true answer or solution. It may be one possible but needs to be thought out beyond "Free my weed". :D
Well I grow them (moonflowers) in my front and side gardens..............strangely, that is quite legal, but I might have problems if I grew cannabis. Yet I can go to a petshop or a fishing shop and buy hemp seeds............and roach (a sort of fish Gore :D , not what you were thinking) are addicted to them. They are a pretty ugly sort of plant anyways, whereas poppies are quite beautiful.Quote:

I guess that most of my collection are probably ineffectual from a narcotic viewpoint..............we have been growing them in this country for around 200 years. The soil and climate probably don't suit?
I do have some nice pale Afghan ones though.............I bet that they "work", not that I would ever try it.

Amanita Muscaria (magic mushrooms) are pretty common around here also............I have seen some really "laid back slugs", but prefer to buy my mushrooms in the supermarket :D

Most people don't know the meaning of moderation and that would screw the whole thing up for the rest of us. I admit I used to stay up for 3 weeks at a time on speed but that was when I was 16-18 and I've learned what moderation is since then.
On your legalize opiates stand point are you meaning vicodin and the such or are you talking heroin sold in convinience stores?

Heroin was already in stores. Before 1906 it was over the counter and Sold by Bayer, the Aspirin people. Back before the crime rate went sky high.
Now MsMittens, the way you said it, basically legalizing drugs would get rid if the stupidity problem in America? How si this bad? Vicodin should be over the counter. Anyone who has ever had REAL Opiates (Not the fake **** people try to sell you) would never harm another person unless it was because they were trying to harm a familly member.
Assuming of course that they were legal, which would make the price drop, and you'd no longer need to steal to support a habit. Also this would help stop things from spreading because you could get needles if you use them that way.
Opiates have been legal before. The crime rate was lower than it is now, so I think that should be enough proof that it should be done again.
This would stop dealers from killing people over turf, and it would stop others from robbing people for the money they need to buy them. That alone would drop the crime rate.
Getting killed over an X-box is another reason they should be legal. Obviously those people are under to much preassure and need to relax before thye start killing. Opiates would help that A LOT. I can tell you from experience, and from the fact that I'm on Vicodin right now, that any urges I had to punch someone in the head for pissing me off cease to exist.
I've never heard of anyone having a violent reaction to an Opiate. And no, I will in fact NOt believe it if you find some ******* who said they have seen it, because the "Truth, the anti drug" people lie all the time. I'm not sure if it's still there, but they had on the wen site that Weed was NOT natural....Hmm that's odd, and here I'm thinking that you can grow it from the seeds it produces....
People like that should be beaten.
Now, I'm a Chritian person, and god created the plants that make these drugs, and I also believe that God created everyone and every living thing. The human Brain has Opiate receptors, and also in the 1970's another Dr had found another part of the human Brain that has the job of processing Opiates.
Now, to me it seems humans were meant to use Opiates. And if God created plants and pods that I find and I use, then who the **** is ANY HUMAN BEING to tell me I'm wrong?
The Bible also states that all seed bearing plants are given to people from the Lord to use as food and to consume. Hmmm, I do believe I have freedom of Religeon in this country, so why am I not aloud to touch something God gave me?
Legalize drugs and I can assure you the crime rate would be broken in half. People would be to high to want to hurt anyone, not need to anyway because they could afford the drugs if the GOVT just saud "OK ^5 sales tax like on everything else here" and it would be great.

Yea, it will be sad when booze kills your organs. Another thing about Opiates is that they do no harm to anything in your body. That was proven long ago. Even Heroin won't do anything to you. And Drs have watched a lot of people who were on Morphine for 20 years or more and never degrade any.Quote:

Not healthy at all ruined me insides and took my brain a little bit to recover. And borderline insane came after I ate a good bit of LSD at the end of the three week periods. But I've been clean for 5 years so that's all in the past.Quote:
