In my opinion, it really just depends what type of server it is. I run SAVCE on my Exchange server, IIS server, and my PDC and BDC. I also have a separate server deployment server with SMS on it, which also deploys SAVCE updates to my clients, but real-time scanning isn't enabled on that server. That said, I don't run any sort of AV on my SQL servers, ISA server or SharePoint Portal Server. Local access as well as remote access to those machines is strictly limited so I'm not concerned about viruses getting on those servers. While I realize that Windows machines are very susceptible to viruses, I'm confident that my servers are locked down well enough that there is little threat. The only servers I have an antivirus program on are ones where user files are stored. But that's just me...

After reading all the info above, which by the way i find very interesting, i see i have much to learn.
