Red Ink too Scary for Kids in School!

its just like i told my uncle - you are homeschooling your kids all the way until college? You call your son honey and sweetheart? wow.. your son is going to be a mouthy little sexually confused pissant one day with no real understanding of the world.

imagine this - no school, your whole life, then you go to college and try to function. ugh.

The whole red ink thing being scary is no big deal. they wont do anything about it . and by they i mean the gov't. this has been brought up before. they know whatever color they change it to it will simply mean that color is feared now. In all actuality, i like to see red on my paper instead of some other color, from a distance - that way im not dissapointed when i go up there. (no i dont have tons of red on each paper, but some on most.)

Anyway, mel is right - i'm a strong believer in raising your kids to function well in society, whether by whipping them, or just punishing them harshly, and treating them like their age should be treated, instead of like babies there whole life.

For instance, my mom would watch me get hurt, like fall off my bike or something when i was younger. Wait for a minute, let me cry or yell or something, and then come and see if im ok. Then she would clean up my boo-boo and tell me to go back outside and play. This kind of treatment will keep your kid from being needy later on in life, as well as from being a p*ssy like mel said :)

Grades are useless. Homework is too.

Why hand out homework, if they end up doing it wrong?

You have no idea! The school system for my ENTIRE state has been officially deemed unconstiutional by our supreme court! Go Arkansas!

My son brought his weekly folder home today with all the work he's done for the last week in it.

HIS READING TEACHER IS GRADING WITH BLUE INK!!! Is nothing sacred?!!? :D

(I only even noticed the color of the ink cause we were having this discussion...lol)

Depends on where you are actually, Cyb. Out here I'd have to regretfully agree to a point with Er0k. Quality of education has stepped aside for school politics and rushing kids out the front doors with diplomas -- and we wonder why the Arkansas economy is always so bad?! Most of my friends went through high school without ever even touching homework or really even putting forth a real effort. I know when I'm a father, if the situation hasn't improved by then, I'll be much more tempted to home school and make sure they have a real education...only time will tell.

Case in point -- at my local high school, a US Government teacher had her students reading their essays in front of the class, and before long it became obvious she wasn't paying a lick of attention. So the students capitalized on this and started purposefully making up outrageous crap for a laugh, and guess what? She nodded and gave them a good grade afterwards! What, you ask, had her so distracted that she couldn't pay attention to her own class's essays? The answer: she was busy working on her policital campaign for state senator.

I know I did, and I'm pretty good at my ****. I slept throughout my psychology class and still passed with a B+. Lucky for me the teacher agreed to let me do a little experiment by using my "subconcious" to pay attention. I only stayed awake on thursdays...which is when we had a test and whenever she had a cool experiment to show us.


Angelic, my quote was from d00dz attacking, whom did not specify which school system he disagreed with...instead he disagrees with THE school system. The fact that he thinks homework is useless is just an immature comment from someone who hated doing them.

I actually agree with er0k on that aspect that the kid doesn't need to be so dependend on their parents. I know I wasn't....often being left alone in my house while both my parents worked and my older brother went to school. I just kept myself busy with electronics and whatever else I could break in the house which I'd later try to fix :).

Indeed, indeed. Well I do think we're overdue for a revamped approach. Homework being the hot topic -- it seems all homework is nowadays is the result of the teacher's failure to cover topics in class, or to simply give students "busy work" (as was the case here). That being the case, I'm very anti-homework. What homework should be is the kid's chance to practice and master concepts on his own at his own pace as is needed to enhance the classroom experience. Beyond that, it's just crap.

Being able to claim that I rarely received "homework" is a fleeting imaginative misnomer. Perhaps, that would be because I took primarily AP classes in high school, and college was nothing but homework and studying. Anyways, homework in high school, for me, was required to keep up with the class. For the non-AP classes, homework was simple reinforcement of the days lessons. IMHO doing your homework displays an individual's ability to be responsible, and helps the individual to learn how to "teach themselves" so to speak.

Homework has good uses when applied correctly.
