How dumb can I be? (Rhetorical question folks, no response needed).... ;)
I finally got it.... It was sat there - dead obvious for all this time - and I missed it.....
Ok, kids.... Here's the scoop....
Every time Microsoft breathes there is a sudden rash of "I found this exploit or that exploit in the latest service pack/patch or whatever".....
It seems to me that the majority of these "vulnerabilities" are either not really vulnerabilities, not even close to critical or require the user to jump through a series of burning hoops in order to have a minimal effect from a security point of view...... So I got to thinking "why" and that's where the little light bulb flickered and came to life......
The "reporters" of said vulnerabilities are "wannabees" whose only goal in life is to be considered by their "peers" as a hacker..... While normal people think about how they want to tell their grandchildren about how they won the State 100m championship these guys are trying to generate a story about how they "saved Bill Gates ass"
Sad really.... So very sad that they don't realize that the only result of their fruitless quest for "hacker fame" is to spread FUD amongst the uneducated masses...... But that's ok... If they spread enough FUD maybe one day one will stick and they'll have that story for their grandchildren.....

Tiger, I personally thing this is something that Microsoft will need work out! For sure it’s not a security hole but the fact is Microsoft created a central location for your security need mean users will go look there and stop going to each individual place in the control panel for their security information. Let said you catch a malware or virus that turn off the firewall and automatic update but still show them as on in the security center. A normal user will thing he’s still protect (While he’s not at all anymore) and after, might catch another virus like MsBlaster or Slammer!

Well good thread and all I have to say is I have delt with vendors for years outside of Microsoft for years and trust their products and others from open source for virus and firewall issues. M$ has yet to prove their self in these areas fact being the billions spent on firewalls and virus catching products and they are the newbies and now it's apart of their O$?. As I see it, M$ is attempting to take advantage of the very problems it made and make money at it. After all some of the first spam I ever got came from you guessed it M$ HotMail, AOL, Yahoo, and now they are going to solve it and it will cost you and me guess what? $$$$$$$$ that's called market share. Now M$ is going to solve my security and virus issues? Yep in their next release, have the market you can make a problem and then profit in the fix:( My dad taught me that long ago I'm an old fart over 50 :)
