I guess this is really dependent on your point of view SwordFish.
If you view terrorism as a Cancer that has to be cut out, then you also accept that some living flesh has to be cut out also.
If you view terrorism as a Religious Fanatical problem, then you try to target the individuals that are committing the crimes. (My point of view, btw)
As one of my teachers put it this morning:
"We can apply a little story to these people killing others recently: Imagine a big rain in the desert, and a scorpion, nearly drowning, sees a bunch of frogs come up from the rain pushing them up from the sand. He asks one the frogs "Mr. Frog, may i ride on your back so that i do not drown?" The frog then says: "Hell no Mr. Scorpion, you will sting me." the scorpion then says " We shall put it this way, mr. frog. if i sting you, we will both die, you from my sting, and me from drowning, now why would i sting you?" The frog thinks about this a bit, and says "Ok, hop on." The scorpion then proceeds to sting the frog. as the frog was dying he managed to ask the scorpion "Mr. Scorpion, why would you sting me? I was helping you? " The scorpion then replies "Mr. Frog, its my nature. "
I dont think we can apply that story to terrorists. It make it sound like they cant help what they are doing that they have no choice. Its their nature. Which is not true. Everything they do is a calculated choice. Why did they kill 12 hostages? One answer is because if they only murdered 1 hostage it would be no longer be headline news or at the very best you would get a small headline like another hostage killed in Iraq. Also which would get more coverage An American hostage beheaded or a Nepalise hostage beheaded? If they are killing the hostages it is to get a certain reaction.
The reaction in Nepal is interesting. I have always found the muslim communities around the world to be very slow in condemming the actions of the different terrorist cells operating in Iraq. There have been some but they have not been very vocal. IMHO the troubles in nepal are a result of this. It will be interesting to see how fast they are to condem the riots and religious attacks in Nepal.
I have to agree with Er0k. I think the thing is, MURACU, that they have chosen their nature, so it's not a "I was born this way" kinda thing. Their nature is a product of their choices.
Actually these things aren't getting much headline news in the USA. The children aren't even referred too as children and the hostage takers are being refereed to as "rebels" while dangling small broken hearted children out of windows. No front page news here, that wouldn’t be good timing right now; at least a few papers referred to them as militant Islamics. But moreover the term rebel is much more "compassionate".
Russia is calling for outside influence because they are in trouble; this is only one of 3 attacks since last week. Not much news on that either because their are loose ties to Al Queda and Americans in the media don't want to face the "nature" of those opposed to the West.
Even peaceful people taught to defend themselves when necessary REALIZE at times they should take arms to protect their children even if misguided somewhat. The problem Muslims living in otherworld counties is they support the actions of those in Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia and in many cases even Al Queda. Until the truly follow the peace of Islam and abolish radical support, they will fall victim at times. The actions of Nepal citizens do not surprise me in fact it was anticipated and predicted.
now that this tragedy has ended in russia. i have to take my hat off to the men of that small town who armed themselves and when the time came fought side by side with the soldiers to take back their children... and too the soldiers that allowed them to act like men.
20 of the terrorists were killed. 10 of them were arabs. when they first took the school they strung plastic bottles filled with explosives and pieces of metal in the gym where they held children hostage then proceded to execute 20 of the adult male hostages. when the fighting started a homicide bomber went into the gym and blew herself up. i hope she's found a place in the after life near her god satan and the rest of her troop.
i hope everyone realizes this is what they would do here in america the uk or any place they can if given any chance at all.

As for Nepal:
We (the British) have had the Nepalese menfolk in our Army for generations, they are the Ghurkas.

Basically a peaceful nation, when angered they have a fury like no other.
Yet, when fighting the British, they were so impressed by our fortitude and fighting spirit [as were we by theirs] that they signed a peace agreement.
From this, they have served in our forces with distinction, and as they each plead fealty to the reigning monarch, this bypasses the accusations of them being mercenaries.
The peoples of this, one of the poorest contries on earth, have to put up with deprivations that would kill the average man, yet they still keep on smiling [ A Ghurkas smile is a very dangerous thing, There is only one thing MORE dangerous, and that's when the little swine STOPS smiling.]
The violence in Nepal was NOT to be expected. But even the camels back breaks...............
As an aside to explain more about the Ghurkas:
On returning from the Falklands 'conflict' [can't say WAR] 2 Para returned to Aldershot, to find that 'their' watering hole had been taken over by the local 'civvies'.
During the ensuing bout of fisticuffs, there, in the middle of it all was a table with two Ghurka soldiers sitting at it. They were just sitting there as if nothing was going on, and NO ONE went near, NOTHING touched them or their table.
The reason: Nobody wanted to end up in Sainsburys being sold for 50p a slice ...............
On a lighter (?) side, if the Ghurkas find a 'lady' who will 'accomodate' them, they queue up around the block, patiently awaiting their turn .........
What stuck out at me the most, was how they said they believed Buddha for their god. Buddha tells his followers to not do this...
The problem would be lack of knowledge, and brainwashing by some one else. Even if the person in control is removed, the followers must also be re-habilitated and understand why doing these things are not the way to go.

The Nepalese are a mixed bag of Muslim / Hindu / Buddhist.
The scum who killed them were 'allegedly' Muslim, followers of the Prophet Mohammed, and their God Allah.
