A phreaking forum (or should it be phorum :P) would be totally out of place here. When you use the name phreaking, it becomes blatantly obvious that it has nothing to do with security. Phone security, however, is quite important since so much important data is simply passed down phone lines.
Think about it, you could probably tap the connection to the phone line outside an office building, and intercept all their data without anyone noticing because of the way that phone signals are electric. How dyu get round that?

Gothic_type, you'd have to use an encrypted line for that. That way, no one can snoop on your conversations. I believe that that's what is called a secure line.

Fair enough, I already knew that (although I accept that there was no way for you to know that I did since I didn't explain the question better). Besides encryption, I wonder if there is a way to get round phone tapping because if you can get the encrypted data, there is always a way to crack the encryption. Doing so might take too long for it to be worthwhile, but not necessarily. And when you think about the knew ways being developed for cracking encryption algorithms (like rainbow tables, etc), it does seem worrying. Basically, is a secure line particularly secure?
I'm sure that secure lines would use some method of encryption that would be impossible to crack with rainbow tables, but I'm sure there is some other method available (or some other method that will be developed). Therefore, to enable people to still have the benefit of secure lines, you would have to develop some other method of security, one that did not depend on encryption.
Perhaps security via obfuscation or obscuration could be used, eg. you could hide data as something else (note the difference between as and in). But then again, maybe not...I really don't know enough about this sort of technology to comment - that's perhaps why I find it so interesting.

Phreaking has stooped to stupid levels in the past. .. these days it is like any other low tech crime .. free phone calls.. steal someones mobile phone..and ditch it after a few days.... Phreakers are just that .. a bunch of Lame arse wanking thieves.. worse than the "How do I hack Hotmail L053rs"
Not a waste, just a little outdated. As Soda said, VOIP would certainly fall into a "phone security" heading, and should be considered as a possible future addition to AO as the technology becomes more widespread.Quote:
