i especially liked the part about the seats....
The Space Shuttle commander and pilot seats are mounted for the mission, and technicians are currently installing the seat harnesses.
Does this mean they take the seats out between missions just in case anyone wants to take it for a spin? :)
Hmmm makes you wonder if it's a security thing? Hard for a group of highly trained operatives to steal a shuttle? Imagine they get past all the security in the dark and flick on the lights -"****" no seats! :D I bet they take the entire cockpit apart between missions, x-ray stuff and make damn sure nothing will jarr loose during take off, zero to 17,000 Miles per hour in 8.5 minutes is stressful! Damn I would like that ride.
Make sure that seat is bolted in!Quote:
The Space Shuttle does zero to 17,000 mph in 8.5 minutes. The speed of the gases exiting the Solid Rocket Booster motor is 6,000 mph -- three times the speed of a high-powered rifle.
Nasa Fact Archive
I agree NASA has done some wonderful things. But they also make some incredible hard to believe mistakes. On example is the Houston facilaity working in metric and the Florida (or Hunstville) faciliaity working in English. It seems that they need better project management skills.Quote:
