yourdeadin --> thats what the problem how do we know if he is not a Skidde kid looking for a virus to play a prankster.
Same way we can't be sure that he is mature enought to handel it and wants it for research/Studies
So to be on the safer side i Wouldn't give him any ......if he is smart enough he can get many on his own..........they are not that hard to get ...........you just gotta love the P0rn :D

Some Basic rules:
1. You do NOT research malware on a machine that does not belong to you, unless it is supplied to you for that purpose.
2. You do NOT research malware on a shared machine, unless you are sharing it for that purpose and everyone knows what the others are doing.
3. You do NOT research malware on a "production" machine (your main computer, for example)
4. You do NOT research malware on a networked machine, unless you have specifically set up a private network for that purpose.
5. You do NOT use a malware research machine for "normal" tasks such as e-mail, web surfing, AIM, internet gaming etc. They must be kept in a quarantined environment.
How to get started:
1. Look around for old, ex-corporate machines..........PI/PII/PIII. They are very cheap or being given/thrown away these days. Go for the flat desktop types as you can stack them and save space (footprint). You can get kit to allow multiple machines to share the same mouse, keyboard and screen.
2. You will need to network them, and have one as a stand alone machine for sample collection. This will need a separate internet connection and the AV set to "notify only" or all your specimens will be DOA (dead on arrival) :)
3. Try for Win98SE and NT4.0 SP6a operating systems as they are cheap/free and give an example of a FAT32 and NTFS environment.
4. Learn the OSes inside out.
5. You will need compilers and decompilers, although I would recommend using uncompiled source code to begin with. You will need to learn how to use these tools, and the programming languages that you are dealing with.
Depending on your current skill levels you might become a half-decent analyst in 1-3 years.
Otherwise, get on with studying what you are supposed to be studying, stay in college and out of jail :eek:
This advice is for an impoverished student at entry level.............

However, problems such as yours can be a great motivation for you
to start educating yourself in that field. Lot's of good tutorials are
waiting here for you, and I am almost sure, they lead you on track.
It's not the goal that matters, it's the way to it ;)

"by default". Port 20/21 are assigned to ftpd's. In case you just put down the wrong
number, never mind (however ftp: you can allow for uploads, but disallow downloads or
vice versa, at least in a "first approximation" ;) ).
Nihil's post points out the RIGHT way to do things, and is good (wonderful?) advice for anyone looking to get into exploring systems.
In addations to the two Windows OS's mentioned, you could also follow the same route using Linux (any of them would be a good start) but you'd loose the "Microsoft Infection Experience" lol.
But do yourself a favor and DONT attempt to hack while at school, without premission of the Admins. Read Nihil's post, read it again, make a list of what you need, and DO it. :)
