Some of you gave some respectful responses while others attempted to justify and defend.
All of you missed out on what my intent was. I don't care about this room. I don't about this website. There are a bunch more out there. IT is the principal. It would be nice to see all, not neccessarily post, but just be able to read without barriers. This isn't the FBI but none of you understand anyways, it doesn't matter anyone. It always amazes me how some people become some worked of over nothingness. Keep the room private. I understand its purpose now however I don't agree with it. That's my right.
If the administrators really wanted to be fair they should create a room soleley and exclusivley only for newbies such as myself. That way perhaps I could discuss my mishaps and disapointments with other people at my own level without being interrogated.

Actually, it wasn't the admins that decided on this. The Addicts was created before AO was sold to JUPM. It was at the request of MEMBERS. The original idea was to allow members who had been here a while the ability to have a forum to talk without extra clutter and allow for more focused discussion. Reality and idea, however, are often polar opposites. ;)Quote:

I think the addicts forum is a good idea and had potential and still does. I don't think the administrators have to be "fair" and make a forum just for "newbies". Although they have got a newbie security questions forum, and everyone who makes newbie gets access to it the same as everyone who makes addict gets access to the addicts forum....

fyrewall - Good point - Yes there is a 'Newbie's Section' (I'm in there all the time). I'll break it down for everyone from a Newbie perspective.
For every thread I start:
1 in every three 'verteran' AO members will give me slack on how my question has been done to death and to go read someone else's post in the archives.
1 in every three will attempt to discourage me and not answer anything relvant to any of my questions
And the third opens the door to where I can research or find the answer to my question.
My opinion doesn't mean anything here anyways, right? I mean I'm just a newbie. I've overkilled my point so I'm no going to waste anymore time debating my opinion with anyone else. I've enjoyed reading all of your reactions and it's time for me to do so reading and learning. I mean, that's why were all here,

I think that you miss the point of "addicts". If you look at the opening page you will see that we generally have several hundred guests logged on at any one time. We have no idea who they are or how responsible they are. Similarly, very new members are an unknown quantity.
I would certainly not post a suspicious file in any of the generally accessible forums because some silly kid (no doubt using his elder brother's or a shared computer) is bound to click on it and let it rip. Please do not try to tell me otherwise as I have spent many a "happy hour" repairing machines that have had just that sort of thing happen to them ;)
Because you have to make 275 posts to get to addicts, and they must at least have been reasonably coherent and innocuous, it is reasonable to expect that people who can access that forum are savvy enough not to shoot themselves in the foot. They are also more likely to post something relevant, avoiding the "clutter" that MsM refers to.
I must admit, as others in this thread have already done, that a lot of crap gets posted in there, nevertheless, the concept of a "private" forum still seems valid in principle. Otherwise it would be done using PMs and/or the private chatrooms which would be even more restrictive?

See you seem to be mixing 2 subjects here. Okay as far as what you said about when you start threads and the reacions of the various seniors: its not about your post count. Its about respect. Respect is something fairly dificult to earn here. And you damned sure arent going to get it because you want us to allow you in to a forum that has to be earned acsess to. One of the reasons the addicts forum is closed to newbies and the generral public is because everyonce in a while someone will post something as proof of concept that we dont want every ****tard newbie getting thier hands on. Admitedly its not that often but even 1 post like that a year makes it wort keeping dipshits out. Cause you arent going to last very long around here if you are the type of person who would misuse something like that. It took me almost 1.5 years to get into the addicts forum and it gets on my nerves to see certain post whores who shal remain nameless get in there in less than a month. IF you want in pay your dues. Most of the rest of us did. And ive taken my share of flames in my history here at AO. Just ask spyder32. Its a freaking website for gods sake. If you dont like the way its set up go somehwere else.
P.S. does it realy hurt yoiu to take alook at what other people have ALREADY said about your topic or should we repeat ourselves endlesly just because we have a lazy newbie?
