This is just a guess that may be an answer:
In IE, click tools, Internet Options.
Click settings under temporary internet files, and then View Files.
When the windows explorer window opens, click tools then folder options.
Goto the view tab, and verify "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
Click OK
I don't know if XP SP2 makes the temporary internet files hidden or not, but if they are then this will allow you to see them.
If this doesn't make them visible in your list, when you can do is goto a web site. Any website will be fine. I'll use google for an example. Visit, www.google.com. If this page loads correctly then it will have downloaded the files somewhere. What you want to do is search for those files. You can right click any picture and goto properties and get the file name it is saved under. On google, the big logo is saved as logo.gif. I don't recall the exact keystrokes in XP to do a search, but its something like start, search, files and folders, and then goto all files and type in logo.gif. This will show you where this file is and hopefully where the rest of your temp files are.
Hi
Yes exactly ................. at least now i know exactly what you are looking for................ and that the files are being deleted after you close the browser...........we are making progress aren't we ................:)
Which Verson of IE are you Using.?
There is got to be something in the setting we are missing ................i don't know of enything else that might cause this.
One setting is Empty temperary Internet Files Folder When The Brower is Closed Checkbox........... which should be unchecked .
and otheris Remember Browser History For Number of days ..............Check if it's not set to 0 days .
Another thing Check this registary value Prestent in
User Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Internet Settings\Cache\ -----------> Persistent
System Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Internet Settings\Cache\ ------------->Persistent
Check what this Persistent is set to should be something like 01 00 00 or 0x00001(1)............do not change the any value there just look and tell ....
The temperary internet Folder in turn contain a sub folder called Content.IE and the folder has 4 sub folders............tehse are the folders that actually contain the files and are not visible throung the Explorer.......................you would not be able to see them directly.....................try doing it DOS prompt and see if all the 4 folders are empty......................when i have to get rid of the Inetrnet cache i manually delete this folder because even after clearing the cache some files are left in this folder .
Right now i can't think of any other thing that might cause this :(

Ok. Let me first answer to you zENGER. On my PC "Show hidden files and folders" is always checked because i'm the admin and i like to see all files on the PC. But thank you for the guess.
I did what you said for google. The result is the same as always. When IE is runnning the files for the page are stored on C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.
I made a search in that folder, but windows did not find the file logo.gif. Then i went to file -> save us and i did again the search this time Win found the file.
SworFish_13, yes we are making progress, that's right but why the files are being deleted after i close IE?
My version of IE is 6.0 with SP2.
Empty temperary Internet Files Folder When The Brower is Closed is unchecked.
Remember Browser History is set to 20 days.
And now about reg edit. I did exactly what you said.
User Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre
ntVersion\
Internet Settings\Cache\ -----------> Persistent. PERSISTENT is not there and i don't have something like that.
In System Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\
Internet Settings\Cache\ ------------->Persistent I have PERSISTENT and the date is:
0000 01 00 00 00
My temporary internet Folder does not contain 4 subfolders.
But the temporary internet Folder of the other user of my PC has a subfolder called Conetnet.IE5. In that folder there are another 4 folders which are full of files(internet files).
So i'm missing the CONTENT.IE.
I think to make a repairing operation with the boot CD of windows.
Heya ,
Everything seems to be fine...............:(
NO you are not it's a dynamic folder which is created and deleted ......................you are missing it because the hhistory is being deleted ............as soon as the history is deleted it itself gets deleted.Quote:

Are you sure you don't have a any third-party cache clearing software installed.?
Lets try one more thing ..................Try moving the folder to a new folder...................I mean create a new temperary Folder.
Internet Options->Under Temporary Internet files, click Settings.->Under Temporary Internet files folder->click Move folder.
Assign any new folder to it and see if the problem is still there.
--Good Luck--
Heya, Heya, Heya, Heya, Heya, Heya LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Everything is fine now. We did it. :D :D Thank you all!!!
