I'm known for destroying threads in Cosmos... but this time I'm going to try and bring it back on discussion because i think it has some merit...Btw I'm glad to see the no APs in cosmos was followed... then again this thread should probably be in GCC...
I have to agree that seeing people use short forms like 'ppl', 'wht', 'n', 'r', 'u' really saddens me... I truly love the English language and while I'm by no means a master of it... I can't stand to see it butchered. FanacooL's speech patterns remind me of NFG (for those that remember that bout).. I've used this threat before... and I think it's about time I use it again. I'm going to start negging the **** out of people that insist on using short forms and making their posts illegible. I can forgive those that have a first language other than English.... but not those that butcher the language for no valid reason. I sit with a dictionary when I write my posts and even if a word looks wrong... I'll look it up... This is the internet... written communication is a big part of how people perceive us. I bitch at my friends when they use short forms... so I'm sure as hell going to bitch at someone who uses them on here. I can't respect you, or properly respond to your post when I don't take you seriously and how can I take you seriously when my 10 year old sister is a better typist than you are? I honestly don't think it's too much to ask to type out the whole word instead of parts of it. I type in excess of 140wpm... I'd assume that most visitors to this site can type at somewhere around 60wpm... (My 75 year old grandmother types at 45wpm).. If you type at those speeds or above.... it's definately not going to waste any of your time to complete your words, but it definately wastes my time trying to decipher your BS... There have been several threads that I have chosen not to reply to because of the language in them... If you want to lose valuable responses that's your choice, but how about showing a little respect for your fellow forum members.

Based on responses I've had to my comments about AO in the past I'm going to say the community.... We can see by who the members are that security is definately not the driving force behind this site (which is why it's a little misleading).. AO is a tech support forum and nothing else... Occasionally there are glimmers of intelligence but they are few and far between (and falling even further apart as people pollute the boards with mindless, indecipherable drivel). I personally visit AO because I love helping people... Hell I'm working a tech support job and doing extra (unpaid) hours because I love it so much, so why wouldn't I love being here. I also like to occasionally use it as a sounding board for ideas. I post tutorials I write here first because I know they'll be criticised more harshly than elsewhere... I post for ideas and help because even if the majority of people are here for tech support there are a few that know what they are doing... and the PM system is a great way to contact some of the people here that still haven't moved into the IM age (looks at some of the old timers). As much as I want this to be a security only website, AO is definately a great place for social networking... Sure there are lots of little kids there, but the majority of the members are great people... So great in fact that I'm proposing a group meeting for those interested here... I know I'm located centrally for at least 4 members and probably quite a few more... I've got more than enough room for sleeping bags... Lots of fridge space for beer... I'm an expert bartender and my gf is just finishing up Culinary school... We've got plenty of open ports/wireless for laptops and a 144" screen in the living room for movies (or presentations if you want to have a geek party).. If anyone is seriously interested... let me know and I'll post something in GCC/Addicts and whoever can come is welcome.. I'll put everyone up and we'll just BBQ lots of hot dogs and hamburgers (unless we can sweet talk my gf into cooking).
