I don't know if you understand what I'm saying so I'll try to expand a bit.

All ftp connections whether through IE or an ftp client are unencrypted. sftp uses ssh file transfer protocol to make a secure connection thus providing safety. But to use sftp, a user must have a client that supports it and must be uploading to a server with an sftp module or whatever you wanna call it.

Umm..Now I'm understanding. Kinda Like crypto in general?: both 'users' need the same key to view the data. At least in a controled environment. Okay got it, understand it..thanx

With a program like Cute FTP, you can have a lot more information about your current transfers (Error Message, what is left in queue to upload, resume function, …) I think it's more effective that Microsoft IE Ftp and easier to use that command prompt FTP.

I use Cute FTP because I use but there is multiple good ftp client out there.

To answer your question Kurt_der_koenig No this is not a real business. I'm really considering opening my own business in the future. I did that site just for a hobby. To learn a lot more. How did you know uploading the .html files as id1.html id2.html etc... on to the FTP server would make it display like that? Do a majority of the FTP servers require the .html files to be in sequential order? Also, to anyone who can answer this question (since it never got an anwser) ;)

When I scrolled over the links it said " 'blahblah.com'/id1.html" . It has nothing to do with order I just listed it in that way just out of habit and because thats how it goes in order on the page. It does not require it to be in order...

I know applications such as dsniff, etheral can capture authentication data ftp,telnet, http, pop, etc.. if you have a packet sniffer such as listed above and your NIC is in "promisicous mode", open command prompt for Windows XP connect to an FTP server enter your username and password once logged in go back to your packet sniffer and anaylze the data you can clearly make it out the username and password. Because everything is sent across the network as clear text no encryption whats-so-ever. I did this locally on my own PC so I know it works locally. I Never tried remotely. Does anyone know if this is even possible? Thanks to all. Computernerd22
