The closest thing I can think of resembling "stale" smoke was the
practice of recycling your smoke by blowing it into another person's
mouth (normally a member of the opposite sex).
Ever get into a car owned by a heavy smoker? Now that's
stale smoke!

Stale hit == what happens if you don't take your finger off the carburetor when you finish sucking on the bong, then let it go out, then go to relight it.
We used to (back in the day) make them out of used baby food jars (my smoking buds were new parents), plastic drinking straws, and tinfoil. They work very nicely, but the expansion from the concentrated hit was something fierce! Hit veeeerrry lightly....
