Not something that would be appropriate for school... even if it is college.
Though... a n00b would learn something... ;)
MsM, just reference that one.
You'll see all the guys in the class all huddled around one monitor.
Though its not really a security movie... I do like the warriors of the net animation.
Its pretty cool to see a visual of just how the "intranet/internet" works.
Even if the animation is't 100% on track.

Don't forget Irongeek's video tutorials.

I watched the warriors of the net. While i didnt learn anything new and exiting I thought I was an awsome animation and would be a great thing to show to people who wonder how it all works but dont want to invest the time to study it

There's a neat set of videos there ...
Let me see… Hope it's not too much late for a Movie tip...
Movies with which hacking had been shown cool enough that I really watch it over and over were the following (which were not mentioned yet):
1. The Score – when the geek pal of De Niro tried to break through the server of a Security firm. He’s been warned by the Good Guys and the geek never got in. After that negotiations took place (it’s all about money).
2. The Recruit – CIA?!? The training ground where a geek guy who supposedly will be hired by some BIG computer company (?) had been recruited by the CIA and went on training. Another recruit had shown off her ubergeek talent. Wireless stuffs and Remote servers were being emphasized here. Even shows some way of physically hiding your pen drive (USB Device).
3. Italian Job – I liked the character of Green here. The ORIGINAL “NAPSTER” – LoLz. Been penetrating the L.A. Traffic Command Center (sort of). Even mentioned in the film about an annual competition open to all HACKERS who could break the security system of a top SECURITY CO. Too much HACKING here, VAULTS, EXPLOSIVES, GETAWAYS, TRUST. Too CooL.
4. Enemy of the State – Hacking a Mobile Network to sneak on the Politician’s mobile. Lots of surveillance and hacking here too, lots of it.
5. Art of War – Wireless hacking. The best advice is always shutdown your laptop or lock it, I mean LOCK IT!
6. Mission Impossible – Hacking the NOC list. Never use “disavowed” or any related word in your work (i.e. names, familiar words) in your USER and PW.
Definitely Matrix (trilogy) is the all-time kicker!
At the end, all this hacking (although it looks cool in the movies) specifically with the intent of something like intrusion, invasion of privacy, search and destroy, “and” without permission is BAD BAD BAD! But like you said MsM, still it is fun… and promoting awareness through education is the best.
Enjoy the Movies!
Yo!
Old thread... besides the matrix sucked donkey balls. And all it ever had was a very not noticable scene with nmap without the naked chicks... oh and then there was some funny graphics with all that none emotional, very robotic acting from each main character. MsM, how old are these guys? I mean, I know that I for one am old enought to look back on how much movies like these keep ruining the internet more and more each and every time. :1pokeeye1
These guys are in their late teens/early twenties. It's just more for background noise and such. They are well aware of my views of Hollywood "hacks" and view it more for giggles than seriousness (although I wanted to get the 2600 ones for a more serious point of view... perhaps as class material for a summer course I'm creating... )
