Hmmm,
I do not think that "condoning" is correct. To put it very bluntly this thread really belongs in "Cosmos" because of the high proportion of philosophical to factual content.
It was some Roman or Greek philosopher who came up with the idea that the punishment should fit the crime.
This is the concept that TheSpecialist and I were examining:
1. What is a "crime" in this context?
2. How do we measure its severity?
3. What is a just punishment for those guilty of it?
4. Is this commensurate with the analogue version of the same crime?
It is a bit like the insurance industry and mitigating circumstance.............sure you were insured, but it was 90% your fault, so you only get 10% of the claim value.
Is it not ironic that those who scream the loudest about people's God given right to be stupid are amongst the first to file negligence suits? :)
It is a very grey area IMHO, but our law makers seem to be approaching it as "all black and white with no grey matter in between" :D
That's my £0.02
:)
It sounds to me as if the original poster wants to set up and censor the web. Make the content that is available meet 'HIS' criteria of what is right and moral.
But what of my criteria, does he take into account that what I want to purse might be different or fall in to his 'forbidden' catagory. Do I have to follow his ethics and moral standards and am not allowed my own.
I feel that instead of any kind of censorship, parents and educators should guide and educate their young in the ways to safely negotiate the web and in the morals and ethics they wish them to have.
The world is a dangerous place and the web in many ways reflects this. A person learns how to travel in this world safely and also should be taught how to surf the web safely. If that means their parents have to get off their lazy butts and learn this themselves, than so be it.
OK,
Time for a bit of light hearted relief?............this thread is called "the cowboy and the indian"? so here goes:
The Cowboy and the Indian A Cowboy meets an Indian herding sheep in the Black Hills. Cowboy: "Hey, cool dog you got there. Mind if I speak to him?" Indian: "Dog don't talk." Cowboy: "Hey dog, how's it going?" Dog: "Doin' all right." Indian: (Look of shock!) Cowboy: "Is this Indian your owner?" (pointing at the Indian) Dog: "Yep." Cowboy: "How does he treat you?" Dog: "Real good. He walks me twice a day, feeds me great food and takes me to the lake once a week to play." Indian: (Look of total disbelief) Cowboy: "Mind if I talk to your horse?" Indian: "Horse no talk." Cowboy: "Hey horse, how's it going?" Horse: "Cool." Indian: (Extreme look of shock!) Cowboy: "Is this your owner?" (pointing to the Indian) Horse: "Yep." Cowboy: "How's he treat you?" Horse: "Pretty good, thanks for asking, he rides me brushes me down often, and keeps me in a lean-to to protect me from the elements." Indian: (Look of total amazement) Cowboy: "Mind if I talk to your sheep?" Indian: "Sheep lie."
If the mods think that is out of order please delete it, but I think that it is a bit too subtle for our younger readers so is OK?
:D
You've been looking all morning to find one that fit here, eh ? :DQuote:
You must spread your AntiPoints around before giving it to nihil again.
