the card supports 54Mbps
i disabled power management. it is running under AC power. i know for sure that the room have a real strong signal coz i had a laptop in there once and it worked fine. no other WAP that is running on the same frequency

A: is an HP laptop with 802.11b/g
B: is a laptop with 802.11b/g
C: is a desktop with a NIC 100 Mbps...........presumably a wired connection?
What is D:?
Please report the results of:

It seems to me that you have some sort of compatibility problem. This might even involve what the router is able to understand and handle.

D: is a desktop with Linksys PCI wireless g adapter with speedbooster

2. B: to A: 54 Mbps transfer all the time
3. A: to C: 54 Mbps transfer all the time
4. C: to A: 54 Mbps transfer all the time
5. A: to D: started at 54 Mbps then drop to about 1 Mbps
6. D: to A: started at 54 Mbps then drop to about 1 Mbps
7. B: to C: 54 Mbps transfer all the time
8. C: to B: 54 Mbps transfer all the time
9. B: to D: started at 54 Mbps then drop to about 11 Mbps
10. D: to B: started at 54 Mbps then drop to about 11 Mbps
11. C: to D: it is wired connection so can't see the current connection rate... but the transfer started out fast then slows down

I would check for updates for your router/ AP also did you install the software that came with the Router? Had same problem on a job once. Double check the position of your bunny ears and the location of your AP are you near any interferance? Also are you in an appartment? if so does anyone around you have Wireless? if they do this can be a issue too.

As I said, I am no expert in this area.............WiFi is very new technology in this backwoods, so the stuff you see is all new, all compatible, and the issues are pretty trivial. You have a mature and mixed environment that I have never encountered before. That is why I find it so interesting, but owe you an apology for the long winded way I am having to go about things.
I put your last info into a "decision matrix" or "logic box"............you might be familiar with the concept of the C.R.U.D. matrix? It is basically like tic-tac-toe, but you are not limited to 3x3. (/off topic, try tic-tac-toe with a 5x5!)
I immediately see that the problem box is "D" All other connections are at 54Mbps?. This confirms what was said earlier about your RAM...........that was a coincidence, and nothing to do with this.
I will have to go away and think a bit, but it is only the "D" connection that has problems. Please look at updating drivers etc on that box.............can you tell us a bit more about it?

Well let me throw in the usual.........strong encryption, new drivers, I bet that card gets crappy reception, do you have SP2 by any chance, any new appliances that can emit destructive interferences to that signal? I believe you can build shields for that antenna so that you can direct further / cancel out the signal in a specific direction.
Suggestion take that card and check the gold plate, make sure there are no humanoid oils on it. Have you been fingering that card?

Ghost_25inf: router has the latest firmware checked the bunny ears (PS: the AP and the laptop had been there for about a year now without any problem.. the problem started when i replaced Comp. B with Comp. A. comp A is at the same spot where i had comp. B few months ago...). i m not in an apartment.. some wireless nearby but it is all diff channel... so it shouldnt get interfered...
nihil: yeah i had also suspect that D has some problems with the wireless... will check it out real soon...
