it's not partly true Katja, it's entirely true. it is true that if one takes extra steps to keep their computers clean of personal data they can minimize the risks but i dont see this as the situation here or even in the case of the average user. when the average user uses web mail there IS much more on their computer than they expect. now i dont know if this is what happened here but he asked for a secenerio and i gave him one.

But if he happens to use a computer in a public library and the administrator has set up that computer to keep itself as clean as possible, there would be not much information about what he did on that computer. (But it is likely, the library will be using a proxy for all it's systems to keep track of what everyone is doing on their systems, in case someone will abuse their systems.)
It just depends on how paranoid a person is about leaving some traces.
