Such overreaction is surely a sign that you are insecure.
Until about 40 years ago, all informed opinion held that
homosexuality was abnormal. All the leading liberals
would be included. Only the political climate has changed,
not the metaphysical realities.

If, 40 years from now, the situation reversed, would you change
your views to "keep up with the times" or do you have convictions
that can't be reversed by peer pressure and intimidation?

Actually, I don't think gays in general are that defensive about their lifestyles. Compare it with Christians. If people would say that Christians are bad and that it's okay to exterminate them, you'd probably feel under attack too, trying to justify the things you believe in.
I don't feel guilty about what I feel, whom I am. But I do feel that sometimes people tend to attack me and as a lioness I go into defense mode. If someone would claim here that Jesus Christ was a false prophet then I bet many people here will start to get into this defensive mode too.
But if people just let other people be what they are and stop attacking them for what they themselves are doing, I think you'll notice that gay people will seem a lot less obsessed about this all.

Or maybe another example. Body modifications. There are people who are getting all kinds of metal implants in their bodies. I know some guy who actually has a couple of horns on his head. (Plus a lot of metal parts on other parts of his body.) He too has to deal with how his environment responds to him and he even has it more difficult since people can just look at him and see he's "weird". Yet he (like me) should be free to make his own choices. It's his body and he can do with it what he likes. If he wants horns, let him have them.
(Btw, those horns are just some blunt metal balls that have been inserted under the skin of his forehead.)

i don't know about that nihil. god seems to lack a sense of hunor when it comes to those who dont follow his commands to the letter. (even the word 'command' doesn't imply humor).

God is much better nowdays. He seems to be after mellowing out since the new testement, must be middle age catching up with him or maybe it is just drugs.
If God is all powerfull and if he is so against homosexuality then he wouldn't have created it in the first place. So either he made a mistake somewhere or he meant to have it that way and he is just messing with our minds just like the mice. :D
On the topic them turning up at a burial like that is just sick. I have a good many friends and family in the armed services. If some bunch of fundamentalist turned up at a time like that then they would be discussing it first hand with God in short order.

Possibly it should read:

Our church hates fags and our church hates you.

f@ck all to do with God just the particular beliefs and politics of that organisation.
Same with any religious organisation.

Does the US have a higher proportion of f@ckwits or are they all just coming out to play at the same time. These people should be employed to do something useful with their time rather than sit and think up ways to piss people off. Recycling nuclear material without protective clothing sounds good. If they're righteous God will protect them and they'll be fine.

Careful guys. This discussion can become real ugly when we talk about things like religion. So beware of the things you say here because it's easy to offend someone with these talks...

On a personal note, I think these people who disrupted the burial of soldiers who gave their lives for their country are about as bad as any Muslim who is shouting "death to all Americans" in the streets of Bagdad. And I can't remember the name but wasn't there some well-known preacher in the USA who claimed the President of Venesuela deserved to be assassinated? That makes him about as bad as any person who claims G.W. Bush needs to be killed. Yet there seems to be a double standard here, which is linked to the religious part. While these people are extremely fanatic in their beliefs, they are more tolerated because they base their beliefs on the same Bible as other people are reading. They can't be considered as hostiles because they are of the same religion. For many, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is also a religious War. A fight to promore Christianity amongst those evil Islamic people. A bit like the crusades of many, many centuries ago.

It is my opinion that religion is very destructive when it's in the wrong hands. It gives people a way to justify their actions, even if there's no way that they can be justified. Like those priests who abused young altar boys, who often are unpunished because the Church is protecting them. The excuse? They are priests and thus don't give in to sins of the flesh and those boys are just sinners who are making false accusations to make the Church look bad. Or at least that's how the Church is protecting itself.

These people are nothing different. They use God as a way to justify their actions. Well, if God would be a valid excuse then those terrorists from 9/11 would also have a valid excuse. Yet in my opinion, this excuse in unacceptable... They might not be as bad as those other terrorists but I do feel some punishment would be required for them. A pretty severe one too, possibly with some additional psychiatric counselling.

Hmmm Ted~ strikes me that this is a Jewish problem? after all the Old Testament is mostly a collection of Bronze Age campfire tales?

OK Where are your paleontology, archeology and forensics?

Sodom and Gomorrah?...................just what were the "sins" of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?.............and we KNOW those happened for real.

Adam and Eve?...................6.5 billion people from a common ancestry? the math just doesn't stack up, neither does the biology.............such a depleted genetic pool would produce extinction within a few hundred years? Not to mention the minor issue of INCEST :eek:
