Well you need to come over to the US and see for yourself. When you stand in line behind someone using food stamps, buying crap for food, who has 3 or more children(in not the cleanest of clothes), but the parent is dressed rather nicely, buying beer, cigarettes etc. Let us know that we do not know what we are talking about. I know plenty of people on welfare that do the right things for their family. I also know enough of them that don't, and abuse the system.
Doubt all you want, but come and see for yourself.

I hear and see so many people talking about the "ghetto" and ****, without having any ****ing clue of what it is. You know what, honestly, many people abuse the hell out of the system around here, but there are many people who don't. THe problem is that you only tend to notice the ones who abuse it. The flashy "ghetto fabulous" idiots who put dubs on an 84 caddy with rust holes. I live 2 blocks from Child's Park, and anyone who is familiar with the Tampa Bay are familiar with Child's Park, it's on the news every week. I've seen things that most of you won't even see in your worst nightmares. And lemme tell you, it's not a black problem, it's not a poor problem. It's the way these people are. They'd be looting even if they were millionaires. They happen to be poor, and they happen to be black, but those are incidentals. They did not cause the problems. The problem lies in the way the people are. THey are bad people, but since at least subconciously, society associates this behavior with minorities, people overlook, again subconciously, when white people do it.

Ok, this is turning into a pointless rant, and since I seem to have lost whatever point I was going to make... Devpon got it right, come here and see it for yourself. Seeing it on the news doesn't cut it. Driving through a poor neighborhood doesn't cut it. Until you've lived it and truly seen it, then you can judge, condemn, and talk like some kind of authority.

In response to the person(s) who mentioned rims on cars and expensive outfits and spending lots of money in the clubs, I agree, this is extremely wasteful and ignorant.

I grew up in a neighborhood(school zone) were a lot of my associates where poor. The concensus that I gathered is that they are unhappy and the rims, clothes, drinks, partying provides them with temporary satisfaction and gives them the illusion that they are better off than they really are.

Sorry, I've been too lazy to go back and quote folks, but who ever needed to know, its 'ensemble'.

Don't be so nice about it. They do it to compete amongst themselves and to make their useless lives seem important. They know their lives aren't worth ****, but they try to fake it.

Don't sugar coat things. There's nothing wrong with being poor. There's everything wrong with being "ghetto."

I spent three years working and living in an area that was 95% black and the rest hispanic/asian...I was one of a handful of white people that actually lived there, there were a few that had shops, but they left at 5 and went home to suburbia...
there were gangs( bloods and crips ), prostitutes, guns, shootings, homeless, etc...and it was during the King riots...and I had to walk through everything everyday to go to work, go shopping, come home, etc...
we spent two days after the riots under marshal law...9pm curfew...so...I know something about living as a minority...
and I can honestly say...most of what you read is BS...most of what people think is BS...

and...for the most part...those that say they've been there...haven't come within a mile of where they say...they've never lived in the heart of a poor black neighborhood...sure...they might have stumbled in for a few hours during the day...or...spent aweek at a friends...but they haven't lived there...their opinions come from what they assume or see on TV.

pretty much. Its not that they arent worth anything, its just that are too lazy to attempt to better themselves. I hate that because it strengthens a stereotype. I have a sister AND a cousin who grew up in suburbia, as did I. Neither of them graduated. My cousin didnt get her diploma because she had a bad attendance record and since then, she's been to trifling to go back and get something she has already earned. I friggin hate her! (change that, I friggin hate that about her!!!)

Then I have to listen to her complain about working for 6 dollars and hour, when I make 25. Anything I say to her sounds like I'm on a soapbox, so she doesnt listen, but she's always askin. She makes me sick.

A poor black neighborhood is no different than a poor white neighborhood...the only difference is a black person feels safer in his neighborhood and a white person feels safer in his...it's all relative...

sure you're going to get the persons who are just plain scared to live anywhere where there is a high incidence of poor crime...but all in all I didn't find them any different to live in.
