Looking for a Server

we use ingram micro at my company for most of our software. SBS cals generally run about 100 bucks a pop. CompUSA in honolulu is in business with ingram also, and their account managers can generally get you a decent price if you dont have an ingram account. I know a few of the account managers there and for the most part they are compitent, IM me if you want some names to look for. Also, if you need some out sourced help for th migration I can probably give you some recomendations on who to talk to, if you need them lol.

as far as the trial edition goes, you should be able to get one from MS.

There are a few ways to purchase the licensing.

I recommend retails...as you can upgrade it to the new version...and move it to a new box...

Where the OEM versions are cheap...everytime you what new hardware ...you have to purchase the licensing again :rolleyes:

Usually new versions require newer hardware.

I have one site that has had the retail version since the first SBS version 4.0...and it has had 3 server hardware replacements.

I have another site that purchased the OEM version and they have grown so much and require some of the newer features in the 2003 version.

I priced the upgrade for upgrading existing hardware, ram, scsi harddrive, new backup, and oem version upgrade...

Ends up they can purchase a brand new dell with the oem 2003 for cheaper then upgrading the exist box... :eek:

I was actually looking at some XP Pro upgrades a while back, but for some odd reason my company is still twiddling their thumbs about purchasing them. We have been using operating leases from Dell to purchase most of our new workstations and will probably go the same route with the server. We actually had our eye on a server a company here in Hawaii was going to build for us, but many smaller companies would rather not build computers because it costs way too much to service them. Now I'm stuck with either building one, which would be tough if you consider how difficult it already is to get a Purchase Order in my company or going through an OEM.

Hmm.. Does anyone know of any small companies in Hawaii that still build servers?

My thoughts actually strayed. I mean to mention XPPro Upgrades. Lately I've been seeing a lot of Dell OEM disks with COA all over the NET for an extremely low price. Basically, will have to do a complete install and when it's all said and done, I'll have Dell crap all over each desktop. I have talked to one other person about these OEM versions and they said that Microsoft is going to lay the law when it comes to these installations. I don't want to purchase something and then get the Key Black listed by Microsoft. Has anyone run into this problem? I just can't beat the price, 85 dollars a disk with COA!

I bought a dell server with no OS

Then installed the retail.....

Here in Canada...very few people can beat dells server prices...and 3 year warranty...and the quality of the hardware

not for a reasonable price, We go with dell becasue of their service plans and parts replacements. They generally dont argue about sending new parts when they break, which is nice. We did the same as MLF and bought the server with no OS then went to ingram and bought the OS and CALs. saved us a ton to do it that way. We would have had to reinstall anyway when the server got there becasue of company policy so we actually saved time this way too.
