I'm not trying to start a war here, but you make this mistake pretty often, HT (along with 50% of Americans/Canadians, btw) :DQuote:

Totally incorrect! you learn how to spell just like learning the national anthem, a poem, a prayer...................etc. It is almost "by rote" it is not derived from first principles.
Hey, just go through your thought processes when you learned your first foreign language?
;)
I disagree with destroying mobile phones and text messages... I blame college and uni profs, I know a lot of them that are accepting text message versions of words saying it's the English of the future.
I agree with you that you have to learn it and practice it... but it still requires intelligence... You aren't going to teach an idiot a second language. My high school french classes were filled with the top 5% of the students... no one else took that class...
I'm working on learning Italian right now and once again, it takes time and repetition, but it also relies on your intelligence to learn the language. I'll stand by my theory that intelligent people don't learn as well..
Neg: :P
Peace,

Thank you nihil.Quote:
If you examine the post you will see that all the errors (bar one) are caused by hitting an adjacent key..............those are "typographical errors" not spelling mistakes.
HTRegz its not a typographical error its an acronym try typing in scba masks in google it will bring up all the info you need on them.Quote:
scba
An just my 2 cents I typed this fast cuz I had some other stuff to do but i wanted to get my post up when I was still on my computer that’s why I did not use spell check or go over it to check for errors. Also one post with a few errors should not spawn off a whole thread about it, and the fact that you should be discussing is that people get more antipoints from making quick witty ha ha your so stupid posts then do from making actual good posts that answer people questions with a good informative answer.
Also thank you hesperus and opyight for giving me an answe to my question and thank you nihll for defending me before I could.
Go to Rome, or Milan...................little kids of 5 can speak it fluently?Quote:

Reminds me of the jokes firefighters tell, like how bright can theyQuote:
firefighting isn't only about brute strength
be when everybody else is leaving the building, but they
are going in?.
Fire fighters are legendary for thier thick-headed bravery,
and they take pride in it. You'll appreciate this when you
need it the most.

As to your Volunteers, Bravo Zulu!!! I come from a family which has currently two brother-in laws as city firemen, and believe me, I wouldn't want either of them to enter a spelling Bee, one drives a cab for the extras and the other is fleeing his mistresses (he was the president of the local FF union, so I suppose he could at least read).
What a lot of people do not realise is, that in a lot of areas mostly outside city limits the responsibilities of chasing down fires is left up to a "Volunteer Force", who (with no disrespect to FF worldwide) may have only gone so far in their educational pursuits, I know I come from a background in the Military where it was okay to accept people with only grade 8 education, when my Dad joined they would take you even if you never made it passed elementary, now it is grade 12, but as I observe lately, having a certificate for grade 12 does not make you a genius.
A huge problem universities and college's are facing today, are the first year students straight out of high school who have the reading skills of a gnat, let alone spelling and grammar.
My point is that these people who give freely of their time may not live up to other people's standards as far as education, but I would gladly put my life in their trained and capable hands if it came down to it.
Just my O :p
Well not to say that it is not true  but yea some fire fighters don’t have the best education. In my fire House though ever one has at least a 12 grade education except for my buddy and I but that goes with out saying bolt of us are still in high school. Also most of the younger guys in their 20 - 30 have a college education. The majority of the guys have regular jobs though you just respond when you can if you work during the day you respond during then night and vise versa and if you have a volunteer fire company near you you really don’t need to be like OMG do they know what their doing we take every thing very seriously because we don’t want more people getting hurt after we get their.
Personally I think it is quite out of order, not to mention down right rude for anybody to have a go at anyone here for their lack of ability to spell.
Everyone here has a different education, different strengths and different weaknesses.
If someone asked the question in person, who would know that they couldn’t spell?
Unfortunately the nature of an internet forum is that everything is typed. Just because someone can’t spell very well does not mean they are any less intelligent than the next person.
Riot had a question to ask and he asked it. There may have been a few spelling errors in his question due to typing fast or whatever but nobody has the right to belittle him for it.
I wonder if people where face to face rather than in different parts of the world would they still say the things they say?
Probably not.
