Repair from a virus, on Xp? You must have been using an admin account for it to take over a few minutes for a removal, if you want to even take the time (time is money) to do that. Virus is basically a pop security term for me. You think I give a **** about how many viruses are on my comp? The only virus I would see using my system resources up would be an "anti-virus" app that I've given permission to run.
To clean a machine with Malware problems this includes:
removal of the errent files.
empty temp folders..you know the drill
clean up registry
apply updates (geez isnt that a regular)
install/update Antivirus - Appreciate what ImitationRust had to say.. some AV's are worse than a HDD full of Malware - Live monitoring is a handbrake on a normaly healthy system.
sfc scans take a some time
Hdd surface scans
the machine may be on the bench for 6 or 8 hrs.. BUT my personal time is 45-90Mins
