But to concur on what the rest of my antionline colleagues said... In Belgium all IT personnel need to speak three languages ... depending on the region you work offcourse.

Dutch/Flemish , English (second yes) and french (third as even most french speaking belgians in IT speak a bit of English) ... A fourth language is sometimes a good thing but not necessary (In my case German).

But as long as you've got your kind of qualifications and you speak English ...your not going to have too much trouble finding something to do...even as a freelancer or something... or "free consultant", I'll be happy to start a company with you to do some consulting :D

Provided I have a visa... that initial stumbling block that is most easily dealt with via a job offer... however read my other post in this thread on that matter... heh.

Finding jobs is easy... but damn near all of them are for local candidates only/no sponsorship. Topping this iff with the fact that even here in the US, no one seriously posts jobs at the director level and above... that is all done through recruitment chains... the stuff on dice is typically just to test the waters (at least I have known several companies to do exactly that).

Oh come on :) ... English is both Germanic and Latin (English is one of my loves... hehe... boy I'm pathetic). The lower class, "gutteural" words are germanic in origin... work for example... which would be compared with employment on the otherside which is of latin origin.

As for jobs, I'd suggest you pay attention to the Security Focus jobs list... It's a mailing list.. moderate traffic... maybe 5-10 postings a day... Plenty of good jobs on there.

Dude, if you are looking at the Director level you really limit your chances. You are better off looking to US companies with strong overseas interests and hoping you can get in and get transferred. I had a good link site with overseas recruiters, let me see if I can dig it up....

One of my SQL coder buddies just got a contract Job in Belgium so I guess they are still hiring. Coding was hot over there a couple years ago. But I am SICK of CODING. That's why I am the boss now. :) I was working on a project developing custom components for VB Studio and one day fell asleep while actually typing on the keyboard. I was so friggin bored. I got up, this was after 6 months of the same thought, and said **** this. :D Turned in my 2 weeks, they begged me to stay and hung up that hat. Next i am considering a hot dog sales person. Maybe on a street corner in Volendam? I liked that town, set on a park bench for a day watching ships come and go. Could put my stand right there? ;)

I've never unerstood that... Why does it work that way (HR/Managers out there care to explain?).... I was turned down for a job that pays almost double what I'm making (and this is fresh out of college)... because I was over qualified... She said to apply if they ever had an opening higher up... and it doesn't make sense...I realize the person could get bored... or leave for green pastures... but isn't overqualified better than underqualified (which was what they hired)...

HT, based on years of hiring for all aspects of IT... if a person is overqualified he will get bored, think he's underpaid after a few month and sometimes second guess you. That is not always the case but I have seen it time and time again. Sometimes on the other side I think managers feel threatened for their own jobs when hiring someone with MORE qualifications than they have. So for you and Catch.... suck it up and down grade your resumes if necessary. I've done it. If they want 1st level security admin. Make IT your resume. Heck I've even got bored taking a position that was below my level but got to the town I wanted, even took a huge pay cut once or twice. All worth it :D In one case it was to be at the mecca of diving, work easy dive hard. You only live once.

But sometimes I toss out the overqualified ones for repetitive grunt work because that almost never works. The dudes end up miserable. And they end up trying to hack the system instead of feeding in back up tapes or some such.

I want to stress here that I am not just looking for whatever work I can get. I am looking for a job overseas that will sponsor me.

This will either be done through an internal reference or because they can't find anyone appropriately qualified in the area... downgrading my resume will only hurt me here.

More up-to-date article in the mag (not online unfortunately) stated that 23000 UK work permits were handed out to IT workers from abroad. Most to India.

Doesn't help you get anything but does show that the jobs are there.
