I agree with that....I remember saying the 'Lord's Prayer" and then God Save Our Queen each and every morning, but back then the classes were made up of a lot of Catholic or Protestant children.....with the opening up of the borders to immigration, we have allowed other religions to enter our public schools, to the point that to exclude their's so that ours will dominate is bigoted, you can't have that, our children have enough to worry about in today's world then to worry about who's feelings are going to be hurt on a daily basis, so the result...take it out alltogether and it absolves the children of having to worry about it...Quote:
When I was growing up in grades 1-12, the first class of every school day started off with The Pledge of Allegiance. Since that has gone away from public schools the allegiance to our country has gone down the shitter. The ramafications of lack of patriotism are obviously being exhibited everywhere in the U.S.
As far as the kids today who are violent and carry knives and crap, it's down to the "Parents", denial is usually the first thing a parent will experience, when confronted by the authorities when they bring little johnny home because they found a weapon on him or drugs, not my little johnny, he would never do that...this is a little OT (apologies to Tedob) but the reasons kids are like they are today, is because they need a good "spanking"....there I said it...someone call the cops on me.
Kids today, have no fear of authority, and it's thanks to the left wing liberals of the early 70's who are responsible, they are the ones who took away the authority of the teachers to discipline the students, I have been on the receiving "end" of the dreaded Cane, and I have experienced the Strap, and believe me they hurt....and you soon realised to get out of line again, that was what was in store for you, so you quickly adapted to school rules.....
Back OT, leave the religious teachings out of schools, if you want to have your kids taught about religion, then either sign them up to a school that is privately run or teach them at home, which to me is the appropriate venu...

A long time ago I was reading a book on war and strategy, and there was a quote in their by a Russian Prime Minister. He said, “You will never conquer the democratic nations with military power. However, their very freedoms coupled with greed will cause their self-destruction. Then you can have your way with them.”
cheers

When I was in school (1960s) we were told that giraffes got long
necks by stretching to reach the leaves in tall trees. Later I learned
that scientists had abandoned that idea a generation before.
Why were we still being taught it then? Schools are not infallible.
Education itself is too profound an experience to be entrusted
to government. Politics should not declare what is scientifically
true. As long as there is disagreement among scholars and
researchers, government should not weigh in (in their usual ignorant way)
and declare one side to be the "official truth".
The more the government tries to silence the critics, the more people rebel.
It is not enough to say that "private religious" schools have a right to teach
their beliefs when government attempts to tip the scales by taking taxpayer
money to support only one side of the controversy.

The good news is that we will all definitely find out which premise is correct.
