Now i'm not disagreeing with anything said in this thread, cause lets be honest, the french ar a bunch of... well you get what i mean. As for the rest of Europe for me the jury is still out, but i'm leaning towards the bunch of... verdict.
Anyway in regards to that article, i think you've got to also look at the source and what "slant" they are putting on it. They may have listed a number of pretty poor/lame/crap efforts by the french/chirac to go one up on america, but when they include the new GPS Satellite network in with those efforts you gotta think they are stretching a bit as if succesful it will be hugely more accurate, and create a GPS network that is not ultimately under military control.
I wouldn't worry about it. A new search engine and the new GPS system will probably only work 50% of the time. The rest of the time the technicians will be on strike because the government work let them smoke in thee control room or will have put the price of their Gaulois and Gitanes by €0.01.
The rest of the time service will be intermittent when technical staff can't get to work because of the motorways being blocked by indignant (and unsanitary) sheep farmers striking no doubt because they no longer get an EU handout for everytime they fornicate with one of their flock in the town square.
All these silly little ideas to make the French feel useful are probably being paid by EU subsidies (national Prozac), and I'd quite like my chunk back thank you.
My apologies. Please allow me to restate my point. They can compete all they wish - having defended our country and our rights - I fully believe in free enterprise. The issue is that France's current foreign policy looks to "compete" with the US at everything - which is not a problem, but the reasoning for that competition - basically to snub our country gets annoying at times. Furthermore - why do they feel the need to compete like that - we know they have talented people there - just look at the gaming company - Ubisoft. As I and others have stated - if they as a populis wish to prove something - do something our government can't or won't do - solve world hunger or poverty or something different. Also - just because I had bad experiences with the French - actually just the citizens of Paris, does not mean I wish them harm; I do not wish to "bomb them" - what would that prove?!? And my experiences with the citizens of Paris go beyond my earlier declaration - I just highlighted that part of my life to illustrate my point.
And about Peru - if they afflicted me and our country as France - more so Paris than France as a whole has recently done - then yes - I would post. And considering your nom de plume (see - I don't totally hate on the French) I would have thought you would be unhappy :D as well - or at least curious about this topic. Ok lame attempt at humor - but this audit is draining me. :p

I thought actually it would have been more slanted against the US - being from Aljazeera. Heh - and you are right - I do not want to negate any of their accomplishments - I just would prefer they move in new directions - they don't have to prove anything to the world or the US - they were a country long before we were. Actually they did allow us the opportunity to be generous and humble in victory, each time we nailed their a** , we graciously gave them back the land we had taken.
Look,.....like Foxy's sig, ever since they have been beaten and whipped (twice by the Germans), they feel a need to reassert themselves in the eyes of the world, so to a Frenchman, if they know it rankles the "Anglophones" they will go out of their way to do so, case in point....At all airports around the globe the language used for safety purposes is "English" for arrivals espescially, but here in Canada, the Quebecers wanted it to be in French, just had to have it in French, of course it got turned down and they had to comply with the "International Standards"....

Rather than having them just talk about it, make it happen. If it can compete then wonderful.
