The L34-A1 is the Sterling SMG, which I also used to teach :D

Your "RPGs" were probably the 84mm Carl Gustav?............"Charlie G's" we used to call them ;) It is actually a recoilless rifle rather than an RPG..........I can remember that there was an adapter for an SLR, and blank rounds to fire those early RPGs?

It think the rocket doobry looked a bit like that 84mm but was the tube for those disposable anti-tank weapons. They were just cheap plastic that was thrown away after it was fired. No idea if it was a spent weapon or a live one lying on the floor.

Lots of 9mm HKs, GPMGs etc sitting about the place + all the servicemens personal weapons. This was when you were allowed to own a handgun.

Yes, we did have the American 66mm disposable back then.............and I do remember when we were allowed to own handguns...............I had a S&W Mod 14 revolver, a Mod 59 in 9mm, and a Colt .45 Auto.................

IMHO the FN-FAL C1 http://www.marstar.ca/fnc1s.htm by far the most durable of the lot, mud or snow.....weighed alot though and was a bitch on long marches.... :p

Hmmmmm,

"FN" is Fabrique National De Armes De Guerre Belgique..............I think that Negative will back me on that one? It is what we called the "SLR" (self loading rifle) "Browning" to Yanks?

The secret is to take a screwdriver and turn the gas regulator up to #9..............that rattles their teeth next time they fire it

Yeah, it was originally built by the Belgium's, but we modified them for the weather conditions we experience, you know in case the ruskies came over the North Pole, heading to Washington via Ottawa...http://world.guns.ru/assault/as24f-e.htm our's looke more along the lines of the brazillian version, you can see our LMG verison C2...that was a hoot letting that thing off....shells flying everywhere....

Messing with the regulator was always a fun trick with the instructors, man the cheek bones would take days to heal.... :rolleyes:

I'm not the shot I once was but I'm still better than average. A decent rifle and I'd cause some trouble during the apocolypse :D

On holiday I tend to get sent by the missus to the air rifle shooting to go win her a T-shirt or something. Last time I was never winning, kept getting beaten by these Irish guys. Turned out they were all RM Commandos on holiday. Ego suitably deflated by the professionals I went to the bar instead and saw they drink better than me too :(

I used to do okay with the FN, just pretended that face belonged to the Cox'n and let her rip....the one I used to have fun with though was the Sten,.....had to walk it to the target and fight it to keep it centered, by the time you got to the target ,you were empty.... :D (and that's standing still..)

When they shot my driver, I was not best pleased............I had a CAR-15.................11 were found, but I would guess I had the same again in walking wounded...............

Darts...not so good. Need a few pints to steady the air first.

They took away the SLRs just when I turned old enough to shoot them (13 and a bit). Some nut job went postal round a Town called Hungerford. After that they dropped the legal caliber of semi-autos to .22. I was a cadet so we were officially civilians and had the rifles withdrawn from us.

There is a fair kick on the L81. Especially when your 13 and weigh 8 stone. My best ever was a 33.5 (might mean more to Nihil, max is 35.7) in the rain at 600m. We had a few guys that were good enough to get across to Canada to shoot there but I was never that good. We had to stop when we were 18 for the cadet comps and it was always too expensive to take on as a hobby after.
