Try it, it can not get any easier to install Gentoo. I tried it before and it was pretty good. I am still trying out many Linux distributions to see the differences between them, and to see if another type will make me switch to yet another one. I did, I cut the Gentoo partition, and installed Slackware on it. Have to be vareful, I might get called the German word for Shower again ;)

I knew slackware would come in... it's another distro that is non commercial.
I didn't know gentoo had anykind of decent graphical install. Like VLOS. Always learning

Yea, that was started al ittle over a year ago so people could have a way to install it. I think I have screen shots here somewhere.

VidaLinux OS is Gentoo-based but is in fact not Gentoo, so if you go to the Gentoo forums you may (more or less) gently be told to go over yonder to the VLOS forums for support.
Gentoo itself now has a graphical installer, but it is still a little buggy.
I haven't tried it myself, but I *believe* that this link will take you there (the official Gentoo LiveCD, as opposed to a plain install CD, I guess)

So, that's what to look for if you want the graphical installer.

I personally don't worry about GUI installers or character based ones. I've been installing OSs for a while now and I know what I like. I like the Free BSDinstaller, the Slackware one, and SUSE. RedHat was alright, on the install but it wasn't that great.
Debian has a nice installer too.... Well NOW they do lol.

The new Ubuntu installer blew me away..
It's like knoppix with a big "install Ubuntu" button on the desktop ;)
It's fun browsing the web with firefox or using OpenOffice while installing your linux.. That's productivity :)

I havn't had any trouble with gentoo lately..
Did hate it in the past..
The whole emerge thing actualy seems to work OK now..
It's an OK distro.. Not my favorite but not extremly hard or weird..

The emerge concept is definitely interesting. I look at it this way, if someone loves it, it's free and useful to someone. Can't be bad.
