Well, I have a copy of Nero that works well in Vista, so it's only the XP machine running version 7 still that's refusing to work in anything other than Express. However since that's my spare PC and Express does mainly what I want it isn't too much of a problem.
However, I might give your Ashampoo Burning Studio a try on the computer that won't run the Nero Burning ROM part of the package - thanks for the tip :)

Nero is so easy to use now... I like it. At least to be able to backup my entire hardrive on CD it is too easy, it makes me kind of laugh.
If the product is still good why bother about their marketing....

Me 2 have never xprienced such a prob.NERO does slow down wen xp (inbuilt) is primary burner.Do sum reg edit and it will fastened up.

The problem I experienced is apparently quite common and I know other people who've had the same thing. However, Nero Express works fine and that's more than adequate.

I hadn't used it in yrs, until yesterday. I installed the demo. What a bloated, invasive program. If there's one thing I cannot STOMACH it's any program that leaves processes running when they're not doing a blessed thing. Needless to say, Nero and all traces of it are now gone from my pc. Back to the free CDXPburner pro

Yes, sadly Nero started out being really good and now it seems to resemble Norton too much for my liking!

They all seem to be heading toward that "all in one" type approach. When I DL a burner app, that's what I expect it to do, burn. I don't want it to play media, I don't want a photo viewer, I don't want any quick start programs running at startup, or even if you deselect that, to continue running after I exit the app. Just burn what I tell you to burn, then get lost :D

Exactly! If I want folders scanned to see if they contain media suitable for a library then I'll initiate that, I don't want it done automatically to every damned usb key I insert into the PC!

Well right now I'm using CDBurnerXP pro 3, freeware, but I'm definitely open to suggestions if anyone has a fave they'd like to recommend. I want something powerful but lean. Not something dumbed down like sonic's recordNow, either. That's another one with no settable options and leaves processes running when you close it.

I'm afraid I just do use Nero because at least it works with Vista! I don't use 90% of what the program can actually do though, and I always just use Nero Express. Sometimes I'll use Windows' own cd (and in vista, dvd) burning/erasing built in facilities.
