Can you connect another USB device and check if it
1. works

my external hhd works when i plug it in.
also get the icon in the tool bar
once in 5-6 times i get this message that "this device can perform faster, veiw the available ports"
when i click on it, it gets to this window showing different usb ports. but it diesnt do any thing. just shows different usb ports
had this problem as well, try this:
on the mouse, check where the batteries go, there may be a channel switch, probably 2 channels, it will go back and forth, try moving it to the other one.
Put the batteries back in, and look for a little button on the underside of the mouse (a push button, like a reset button). Push this button, then if there is a button on the reciever, push it as well.
This is what made mine work after 20 mins of messing around with it getting very frustrated. I hope it helps you too.
its alive......its working again.
took out the batteries to find the channel switch. couldnt find it, so put the batteries back again. then spent the next couple of mins fanatically and repeatedly pressing the button on the transmitter and the reset button in the mouse.
and suddenly the pointer started moving
thanx cross and nihil
cheers
Hi bagggi,
If I remember rightly it is the message you get when you put a USB 1.1 device into a USB 2.0 port. The port is backwards compatible, but a USB 2.0 device won't work in a 1.1 port.Quote:
"this device can perform faster, veiw the available ports"
cross's idea sounds good :)
i get that message sometimes.
its confusing though because all the USBs are 2.0,so the message shouldnt come up.
as the hhd is provided with firewire and USB port, so i am guessing that its USB 2.0
have tried searching to see if theres any update or any USB drivers, couldnt find any...
What make and model of drive is it mate?
EDIT: I just came across this and just HAD to post it for you :D

I found this solution a while back:
1. In Device Manager, click on the USB host controller.
2. Click the <Advanced> tab and then check the box on the bottom of the window that says “Don’t tell me about USB errors.”
3. I probably have to do this for each USB controller listed under USB in Device Manager, so that the error message will not appear no matter which controller the device gets plugged into.
I guess it is a slightly incompatible device?
guess the real one wont do the trickQuote:
You will require one large fake turd (don't use a real one),
hahahaha
i have a USB fan....
as for the hhd. will use it as long as it works
