Post links for proof. Reason I say that I recently just read an article on this same topic as a matter of fact. I'm still as of now trying to find that article to show you why I typed what I typed. It would make more sense.

My comments were based on personal experience rather than anything I read.

I wonder if what you are referring to is related to sites that make heavy use of ActiveX and possibly .NET? That would make sense, as those are MS products and IE would obviously handle them the best.

Same thing with sites using Flash and Java? You need to have it installed and up to date. In fact, it reminds me of a few years ago when you needed to make sure that you had the right version of VB runtime to get some apps to work. That area seems pretty stable now?

I mostly use FireFox, but I also have IE on all machines because you can use a browser for troubleshooting as well as what it was intended for ;) I also have Opera on most boxes, for the same reason.

There seems to be two distinct plugins to FireFox. One which will run IE pages within FF and another one that "toggles" between the two browsers. I have messed with the first, but if I come across a site that needs IE then I open IE.

My point was that this is a pretty rare occurence.....particularly with those sites "developed by terminal morons with serial perverts in mind" :p:D

computer, and saw some sites I'd rather she not see. I have a black hole dns
server configured to resolve unwanted domains to localhost.

And, my other computer (linux) honors this server, thus saying "page not
found" when attempting to surf the evil sites (this is the desired behavior).
On my daughter's XP box with IE 7, it kept magically finding the sites,
seemingly no matter what I did. nslookup evil site and I get 127.0.0.1
IE 7 still surfs to the evil site WTF?

I finally worked around it by configuring the computer with only one dns
server (mine) instead of giving a secondary or alternate. It seems
IE 7 didn't trust my server, and also queried the secondary, and gave
preference to it, even though mine was config'd to be master for those
zones. Another example of magic run amuck.

As to the original question, you prolly have your security settings
too strict (snicker). If the page pulls the images from a remote server,
too much security will block them.

bilo86, how did you acquire IE7? Through automatic updates? If so try downloading the full version from www.microsoft.com/ie and see if that makes a difference.

Also, check IE7's security settings. I was testing an Interactive CD (based on web content) I was making and when I fired into an IE7, the browser wouldn't load the pictures or media content. It gave a "IE has blocked content...permit or deny" dialog box. I clicked allow and the pictures loaded up fine.

as long as you dont run multiple versions of MS Office...and install them in proper order :( and dont even think about adding features after that..........trust me .....I know it well

I definatley need one of these ....

back to the original post....yes settings sre probably too high...go figure MS sites need you to enable these "insecure features"
to use their sites

dont just enable them...there is usually an option to prompt...use your discretion.....which is in my ever so humble opinion....is the first rule of securing your\any browser....that and and upto date anti scumware...and limited accounts.
