He appears to be trying to learn the Unix command language, and, when he says he wants a "command" he actually means that he wants a "command language program" (CLP), or "script".
Obviously, you are not going to find anything to convert perl scripts into UCL. If I recall my Unix lessons (many, many, years ago:eek:), Perl was originally designed for the Unix platform and was noted for its handling of text manipulation?
That would make it an excellent choice for the apparent task, as you so ably demonstrated.
