Sorry, didn't see this until just now.
Jan -- A form of John, and it'll be different depending on male/female, since Jan is a unisex name. May I ask which you are?

Aight, then here's yours:
Laurel -- long story short, it'll be Laitaino
Ooooh....sexy...I like. Thanks
how about sidney?
Sidney -- from Old English 'wide island'; Quenya palla, landa 'wide'; tol 'island'. So you're one of the following (your choice): Pallatol, Pallatollo, Landatol, Landatollo
--Eruntalon
Ooh... looking at the profile of Jan, she's a she, so here goes.
Jan -- Yours would be the feminine form of John, so it's Eruntale. If you want the full etymology, let me know. Since my name is John (Eruntalon) I was able to do this from my head.
--Eruntalon
Ok, how about Don?
How bout Donald? Donald's equivolent would be Ambartur
Again, let me know if you want the whole etymology, this is another one that I did quite recently for someone else.
--Eruntalon
Chuck/Charles???
Charles -- Mirimon, Mirimo
Let me know if you want the full etymology... I'm getting lazy.
Sure Phreak, give me all the facts. Donald is my real name anyway.Quote:

how about Geoff [ for those that dont (believe it or not alot of people dont) know its pronounced like jeff ]
I am leting you know I want the full etymology
Apocalypse=Latin for revelation. A common misconception about the bible. The "book" of Revelations is realy The Apocalypse of Saint John the Devine.
Any how. Try "Apocalypse" (Revelation)
Then my real name. "Christopher".
Then try my middle name. You'll never get it. "Kenchar" ( A family name, a cross between Charles and Kenneth, my two grandfathers )
Euclid:
Geoffrey is possibly a form of Godfrey, so here goes
Godfrey -- from the Old German 'God + peace'; Quenya Eru 'God', sére 'peace', so you'd be Eruséro
--Eruntalon
Aight Apoc, here goes.
Revelation -- not gonna mess with it... sorry
Christopher -- Erucolindo
Charles + Kenneth -- Charles, Mirimo; Kenneth, linto; KenChar = Mirimolinton. Boo-yah, I did it. Possibly some AP's? ;)
--Eruntalon
Eruséro I like that...
It's a good thing... It's your name, you're stuck with it
Liran
Lagoon: French lagune, and Italian laguna both from Latin lacna, pool, hollow, gap, from lacus, lake.
Thank you dictionary.com.
How about Linus Torvalds? let's see what our favorite OS writer's name is...
Here goes!
Liran -- I can't find the meaning... if you know it, let me know, and then I'll get to work on it.
Laguna -- Linya from Quenya 'pool'
Linus -- 'flaxen colored'; Quenya malina 'yellow' (close enough to flaxen), laime 'shade', so our good buddy Linus is Malinalaimon
Now let's go for a hard one:
Eairdsidh
HINT: think gaeilge
Um... no. I'm not gonna even attempt that one. WAAAY too low vowel:consonant ratio to be understandable.
It's gaelic for Archie, pronounced ERR-shee. Gaeilge is rather odd when it comes to pronunciation.
Since you didn't go for that one, let's try:
Adara
HINT: Arabic
Maybe later... I'm going to bed... Good nite.
Victor
PhirePhreak when you wake up... try Glenn (male - I was informed that this spelling was the feminin- does that make me a cross dresser?)
Cheers
Victor -- from the Latin 'conqueror'; Quenya mapar 'seizer', so Mapar or also the Quenya Nacil 'victor', so that'd make it Nacil. Your choice.
And now Glenn (from the name Glen) -- from the Celtic 'A secluded, woody valley'; Quenya taure 'great wood forest', nande 'valley', so it'd be something like Taurenando(n)
I'm off to church now... maybe I'll get back to work on this when I get home.
God bless,
--Eruntalon
Great stuff Eruntalon.
Could you please translate Katherine and Timothy?
I don't know anything about the names sorry.
:D :D :D This is really cool I have to get in on it. Mellissa....how about my son Devon .
this is to cool
Katherine -- possibly derived from Greek 'pure/virginal'; Quenya vende 'maiden', or vénea 'virginal'. The name would be one of the following (your choice): Vendea, Vénea, Vendie, Vénie
Timothy -- from the Greek 'honor + God'; Quenya alcar 'glory', Eru 'God', thus Alcareru. It is also possible to use aista 'honor, reverence', to create Aisteru
Melissa -- from the Greek 'a bee'; Quenya nier 'honey-bee', thus Nione or Niere
Devon -- from the Gaelic word for 'poet'; Quenya linwe 'poem', carindo 'maker, doer', so possibly Linwecarindo.
how about United States of America?
Los Estados Unidos ;)
hmm...What was the Quenya root language? In Quenyan please...
To anyone who may be interested:
I've found a book of Elven phrases with... interesting phrases in Quenya/Sindarin. Some seem to be quite useful (A helta ar caita caimanna, for example). And for those lazy bums out there, I've found out that you do not have to put the accents over the vowels when necessary, simply double the vowel. For example, namárie is the same as namaarie, so just use whichever you prefer.
And I'll still be more than happy to translate names, words, etc... just let me know what you need and I'll do it.
Namaarie

Giselle
hee hee
OH hell, as you're a glutton for punishment.
Alan
Anti's are in the post ;-)
You already had a female called Jan, now a likewize strange one..
My first name is: Anne Jan
and I'm a male, in a small part of the netherlands Anne is also a male name.
so that would be
Something Eruntalon
could you also check out Brouwer, in english Brewer or (as my dad thinks) Brouwer could well have originated from Breewer as in making wooden boats water tight.. I think I'll go with the one you can find..
THX in Advance
the JinX (what's Quenya for JinX?)
Alan -- maybe from Celtic 'rock'; Quenya ondolle 'little rock' (ondo (rock) + diminuitive ending -lle), so Ondollo
Jinx> I'm too lazy to give you the whole etymology, but you'd be Almaro Eruntalo
And sorry, I can't find anything equivolent to Jinx :(
Namaarie,
--Eruntalon
oh yeah, Jinx... nice avatar :)
