sublime or NIN or pearl jam is my favorite band.
i like 90's grunge in general (soundgarden, nirvana). Queen was great. early korn was awesome.
But it all started with the beatles.

Heh...I agree most of the "seniors" here that this thread, infact, should have been posted in a different forum. But whatever, I'm not pissed on to even worry about it much :p. And for the "best band award" from my side, I'd honestly have to say any band that's main way of getting their message across is good for me as long as it doesn't inclue:
- bitchez
- hoez
- niggaz
- playaz
- pimpz
- bragging about 50+ women at his/their disposal
Other then that, I'm really quite open to all kinds of music - from instrumental (Tool, Yanni), to rap (Eminem, Jurrasic5, ect) to heavy/gothic/death metal (Slipknot, Marylin Manson, Cannibal Corpse), to even the "odd ones out", yet who still have quite leet music (Deftones, System of A Down, Rage Against the Machine, Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc.).
And as for Negative liking the classics. Thats all good and well, but, honestly now... That music USED to be good (some of it still is - I cherrish my LedZepplin/KISS/Beatles Cd's), but they had their time... Does it really matter who inspired who? Look at Rage for instance... or KoRn. Who inspired them? Sounds like practically everybody - all come together to make sweet sweet music.
Geh... the Beach Boys? What are you people...nuts? :p
has everyone forgotten ACDC? come on here people, its surpising that anyone could think that recent korn is great, and joey_batch_file, why everclear, ya sure sparkle and fade was a good album but uh, they didn't come back wit the same style, they went to more of a pop style, and they're no good now.
lowtripp? bad religion really isn't punk, if you want to hear punk download err i mean buy swingin utters or youth brigade, i guess if you want mainstream punk you could always get pennywise or mxpx
coolnads, your right, if you listen to the beatles then to todays music the influences are obvious, sure elvis was really the first to do 'rock and roll' but the beatles revolutionized it and now everybody today has parts of the beatles style...
so my vote for best rock band is ACDC
and my opinion for best punk band is probly pennywise
simply put:
Sublime
they played everthing from blues to punk and ska not to mention acoustic stuff
Well mine goes by time of my life
from like 10-19 it was nirvana
and from 19-now i would have to say a tie between Radiohead and Portishead
I also like alot of other **** like sonic youth, the melvins, mudhoney, hole,dj dara, Capital J, ak1200 ect. ect. ect
zep/floyd/black sabbath..... all 3 are equil in my book....
ZZ TOP, Primus, or Prodigy 3 totaly different groups all the best in their type o' music
-> the best band, EVER, no contest, in the history of recorded music has to be and always was-- <<connection reset by peer>>
My vote will go to def leppard always
this is coming from a songwriter, that is just what i do do. i lived in bands for the past 4 years. hell, i am even playing a show on saturday in front of about 600 people. f#@k yeah!
but it depends on what you mean by best band. all these factors make a great band:
- songwriting skills
- style
- originality
- talent
- stage show
- just plain coolness
- lyrics
- meaning/heart
you cant just take a band at face value because you saw there music video. you have dig deeper than that. For instance, someone said that Dave Mathiews is great. yeah, maybe he is a great songwriter, but he looks stupid on stage, is a big dork, and has no drive behind his music whatsoever.
my votes are:
Guns 'n' Roses: the coolest people i have ever seen, the best stage show, and they produce albums which are rock n roll masterpieces.
TOOL: probably the most original band i have ever heard and they are all musical genuises.
Misfits/Samhain/Danzig: (needs no explanation. Danzig is just the man)
Strapping Young Lad... Devin Townsend is a musical genius, everything he has ever played a part in is special in some way, but SYL is unique - it is so full on and angry. If you think Korn sound pissed off, go check SYL out.
All bands are based on The Beatles, so The Beatles are the best band in the world. Listen to the way they evolved over time. Really amazing !

tool is great and so is bad religion (i saw em in concert :D), but if you are talking about the best punk band, you have to go back to when it all started - Something like the ramones, clash, pistols, dead kennedys.Quote:

Sick of It All
These guys are insane
it saddens me that pretty much all the votes thusfar have been for main-stream bands :(
are there no prog-rock fans here? no votes for Dream Theater or Rush? even Yes?
you really cant beat prog-rock for "smart" music; its lyrically solid(most of the time :-P), musically complex(with actual MUSIC as oposed to looped beats and such), and has some of the absolutly most tallented players EVER.
Definately Megadeth. They defined speed metal.
Or maybe U2. I cant decide. Depends if I am feeling mellow, or psychotic.
If you want speed metal my vote goes for Fear Factory. They are sick........
:D Tha spice girls are the best in my opinion
hehe
5150 - Yeah I agree as far as live performances Dave Matthews isn't the most entertaining band to see, lots of meaning in their songs but he does just stand there through most songs. But they asked who was the best band ever, not who was the best live band. If you go for best live band then it could really come down to how much money they have to spend on the show to make it exciting if you're just looking for something exciting. My definition of a good live band is a band who can sound the same live as they do in the studio, a band that actually has talent as opposed to one that needs special mixing and hours of recording to get one song sounding right. Little Feat is a good live band, you might not like the music they play but they have the talent to play live and make it sound good, Dave is the same, all the songs they play are just as good live as they are on the studio recordings, in fact I enjoy the live cds more than some of the studio cds.
Tool and Pink Floyd are my votes. :)
I definately like sublime, but as for greatest band ever...
Motorhead. Followed closely by Jethro Tull.
Queen then Led Zeppelin then Black Sabbath.
Dream theater is some amazing stuff...they are a great band.Quote:

Fear factory is one of my favorites. I saw em in concert and it was the best show I have ever been to. It's a damn shame that they just recently broke up. They produced great music for 10 years and never got popular...R.I.P Fear factoryQuote:

The DOORS, Pink Floyd, and Led Zepplin definitely. These three bands probably inspired most music today. IMHO
i have to weigh in on the electronic scene today also. i have been to many concerts/shows in my time and nothing beats a room full of people you don't know, treating you like their best friend and jumping around....just feeling the energy. WOW...i need to go get down tonight!
oh and always remember "drugs are bad". now i will have to take those from you and dispose properly. :D
Best metal band: Testament (they gave all they could bleed...and more)
Best punk band: Strung Out (talk about radio suicide)
Best ska band: Sublime (every day I love them just a little bit more)
Best rockabilly band: The Living End (roll on...)
But my all time favourite goes to Unwritten Law from San Diego. :)

The greatest band ever is definitly a rockband because that's the only music style that is timeless. Rock & roll/punk still don't sound old fashioned unlike alot of other styles.
In my opinion the best bands ever are: The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Nirvana
rammstein, metallica, styx, system of a down
I don't know if someone have this allready written this and if so, I'll write it again.
Red Hot Chilly Peppers will never die. Metallica as well.
