I was in the Navy during Jimmy Carter's presidency. He held military pay raises to a capped 5% for two years at a time when inflation was running 12 - 15%. He also allowed us to get humiliated by Iran with no response except an ill-thought rescue attempt.
Though I hated his performance as a president, his ethics and humanitarianism makes him greater than the office.
I believe in gun control, two hands on the "piece" and don't aim at anything you don't intend to shoot.
If i'm correct techtech, that aspirin factory that he hit was in the Sudan. None-the-less, your point is correct, he did bomb Iraq, and ran into no opposition from anyone.
I forgot wich president it was (the guy right before the first rosevelt i think), but his platform was basicly "I am prety dumb so vote for me" and he won by a land slide. So yes I do think that many americans would vote for someone who is a littel slow.Quote:

Correcting there are a lot of republicans in the suburabs. Chicago is democratic, heavely democrat. I am assumeing that you didn't actualy live in chacago then (cook county has not gone republican in the last 50 years for a president. Republicans basicly don't bother running for mayor of chicago ect. ect.Quote:

Ok haven't been in this one for a while but I thought that I would re-vamp it and talk a little. First why is it that CLinton bombed Iraq and no one said anything about that is really easy, mainly because Saddam was acting like an ass. Second because the entire world knows that Clinton was not a war loving person (For god sakes the man ran from the draft). Another thing about Clinton is that he had a personality of gold. Everyone loved his personality. I think the president that got away with the vote for me because I am dumb thing was Grover Cleveland. Got to be honest I am not really sure though.
As the country voting for someone that is dumb trust me it can and will happen there are two ways to prove that one Bush (the man said he invented the internet. Come on you need no more proof.) Second there is a movie yes I said a movie, The American President there is a very good quote in that movie that I will qoute for you very fine people. Americans need leadership they will follow it through a desert thinking it's water and when the find out that it is sand they will drink the sand, Americans don't drink the sand because there stupid(I know these are not the actual words doing this one from memory) they drink the sand because they don't know the difference. Very good and very true.

What do you believe Strom Thurmond's death will do for politics first in the aspect of switching power and second in the aspect of general leaders in politics. The man was not my favorite politicain, (I.e. his presidency bid the platform that he used for it.) but he was a legend. 100 and still kicking and still vibrant. Next and last how old is the VP.
Oh yeah the reason that republicans have no chance in hell of winning Chicago because they are far to right winged. The basic theory is that there will always be more liberals then conservatives. Why because more people fall under that reange middle class, Poor, Need an Abortion, (The only thing that get's me though is why are the democrats trying to get rid of the guns that should be the republicans.
Oh yeah and Black or minority. Which is very interesting and an entirely different subject by why is it that black's happenend to become majorily democrats. Something else to ponder.

As for Strom Thurmond, just because i'm a Conservative does'nt mean i'm gonna sit around and kiss Strom's butt. I know what he did years back was controversial, and he may very well have asked for forgiveness and all that, but i'm not gonna glorify this man as some great American hero just because he lived to be 100.
I believe party members who have these "stained" past should be kept in the background, not the forefront. The reason being, is whenever someone brings up Strom's name all they can think of is a segregationist, even though he has denounced his past.
Same with the Liberals and Robert Byrd, they hail this guys as some kind of "big whig", when he was the Grand Wizard of the KKK.
It's the same thing in both parties, the Conservatives and Thurmond, and the Liberals with Byrd, there is so much reverence for these men, but for no apparent reason. I know of many other Senators who have served in the military, and have just as interesting backgrounds, but they are not always propped up like some kind of legend.
I felt the exact same way when Trent Lott made his comments, i knew that very day that he would have to step down, and put the party before himself. It really pissed me off as a Conservative, because it just adds to that stigma against us.

I have to add though, there is a disgusting double standard when it comes to these matters, the Democrats always try to demonize the Republican party, when they say little or nothing about KKK Byrd, who mind you, was the Majority Leader of the Democratic party from 1977-80 and 1987-88, also minority leader, and whip for a time.

I don't know I think that the thing with Thurmond was the fact that at 100 this man was alive and maybe not kicking but trying lol. Ok here is the issue with Thurmond that really pisses me off.

Ok I got a question for you who in here like sex. I love it. But if in ten years it is said that sex is bad and you shouldn't do it anymore. Everyone would say well it was a different time then and I was under political influence. Bullshit, I am sorry it is amazing to me that the same person that put in a Presidency bid solely on the basis of race would, later on say that he didn't truly feel that way. That is not ****ing true tell me how this guy can actually expect someone to believe that. I someone told me i had to say that sex was bad to keep my job I would. If my memory serves me correct this guy also voted for segregation. Noone can actually believe that he meant it. Now since we are on this subject I guess I should talk about Trent Lott. I will atleast go half the way with him the only thing that he did is got caught a lot of people feel that way. EQUALITY is a state of mind you better believe that your equal. That is it. Lott got caught saying what many people feel. That is it.
So were do you draw that line. Thurmond until the day he died pretended that he didn't feel that way anymore, Lott didn't lie. He gave asorry excuse for what happened but, never said that he was truly sorry.
Why?
Because he wasn't, his apology was half-a..ed because he didn't truly feel he had anything to be sorry for.
Sorry about the Rambling but, I think that Thurmond was a legend. But an a..hole none the less.

Sure Thurmond served longer than any other Senator, and that's great. Let's just bury the guy in a humble fashion and be done with it. We all saw how much damage Lott did to the party a few months back when he was singing his praises though did'nt we?
Well, i can honestly say that i have never had a black friend into my house, atleast not that i can remember. I had more than a few black friends growing up though. Down where i lived in Alabama there were almost as many blacks in our school as whites. I must add though, the only fights in school we ever saw were Blacks Vs. Whites.....shame. Fights when i was going to school were a weekly occurance, so noone ever thought to much about it. Either you stuck up for yourself, or you got a beating. That's why i always stayed silent for the most part.Quote:

I must say though, there we many more racist where i grew up then there are here in Tennessee, which strikes me as odd, since Pulaski is just down the road.

Bush is a great leader. Even when faced with a decision that many other countrys didn't like he still made the decision on what he felt was correct.
A president that doesn't sway in the wind, but is like an oak tree is hard to find anymore.

Where I live many people are a little bit on the racist side.
About a year ago there was a family that had a white mother, and black father that lived here, as a matter of fact they worked for my grandpa. Now the mother was pregnant and went to have her baby delivered but found out that it had died. Now what the family was wanting to do was to bury the baby in the graveyard thats in the same town as them (Now keep in mind this town only has about 400 people living in it). When people found out that the black baby was gonna be buried in the local cemetry they started protesting it. There reason was that they didn't want a black baby buried next to them.
That issue made me so mad. I just didn't understand why they were putting up such a fit about a helpless baby that had a different skin color.
Ok Cheyenne that is the stuff right there that get's me really mad. I always ask people do they believe that America is great? Why do people from other countries come here?
Why are we so caught up on the color of your skin. Ok this is something I want everyone to try sometime in there life. Go outside America and see how people act about your race.

Four you are right but why is that the grouping that America choose is my question. Let's see we have religion, Personal grouping. All reasons that people are murdered but why race here. I am no trying to say that no where else are there racist but, the heart of racism tribes in America. The land of the free, where about twenty years ago if you were of the wrong race you couldn't even go buy a burger in the South and there are still parts that you can't.
Hey I will bash the US for lagit problems, but race isnt one of them (yes raceism is still present in this country, and Mr. Lott showd me that it may be more previlant then I once beleived). Compared to the rest of the world we have a prety good race record, at least we don't have a govermental policy of genocide like a lot of africa or the balkens. Hell France and England have both had race riotes relatively recently (the english ones I know of where in the 80's any one know of some more recent.). Germany and Italy are far from clean whith the neo-facists in those countries. Racism is truly a problem that crosses nationalities.

QWERTY man you are right on the letter I mean to think about the simple fact that Clinton had. The world even China (China of all places that never likes us.) getting along with us off of Charisma alone. I think that Bush is very similar to Suddam I think that if let into another term this place will turn into Russia LOL not that serious but still serious.
The really crappy part that is making mad about the entire thing is that Bush keeps saying that Suddam wasn't elected by the people. Opps yes he was a crocked election but none the less eleceted. Remind you of something.

In the US, the one with the best hair gets elected, bush does his hair well and so did clinton. Washinton's hair was probably stylish in it's day.
In Canada it's the most funny looking. Look at Joe Clark, John A., Crientein.
I know it sounds sad, but think about what Candians and Americans need from their leaders and it makes sense. Canadians need someone to laugh at and americans need someone to say is great and feel pround about.
