Uhm. I don't think we'll really be able to do that, as we will be using paypal, and paypal only uses credit cards or other paypal accounts. Now what you can do is set up a paypal account and set it up so your bank account is directly conneted to it. That way you can add money to your account. However I would be careful about that though.
I'm taking a guess here, but I'd say that your under 18, ( sorry if I'm wrong), what you could do if you though, is see if your parents would lend you money. lol Just because you don't contribute doesn't mean you won't play, it just means that others will have priority over you when theres a match or something going on.
Don't worry, you will get to play.
btw: guys I got the paypal account set up, I just have to get some things going so I can put a link up that everyone can click on to donate. I'll figure that out tommorrow.
Looks like this is coming together pretty well.
Are we looking at any specific time frame? Start of the new year? Or do we want to get it going right away?
As far as the server size (# of players), we should take a quick poll on who is going to be available to play when and a head count of how many people we can expect. This thread should give a good idea of how many people. Since people are from all over the world, time is going to be a big factor with people working, school and etc.
Like you suggest ealrier phishphreek, I think it might be better for this after Christmas. That way, everyone might be able to contributer a little more. lol

Guys i didn't have much time to read all the posts so... Well are we going to be all members of the AO clan?? Or it depends on sth like greenies? cheyenne i still don't see the link but i found it on the source code of the page. Maybe Zone Alarm protect from the "ad".

The site wont be hosted on same server as the game - we are hoping to raise enough cash to pay for a dedicated CS server :)
the demos dont have to be that big either - not when converted to avi and compressed correctly

I don't think it can be converted to avi. The demo files have the *.dem extension and can be played only by the game cs. Not any other program. The file include any player move and every bullet ;P .

you can play the .dem file in CS and then set it to export each frame as a .bmp - this leaves you with like thousands of .bmp's which can then be put together by something like bmp2avi to make an avi file - so yes they can be converted to avi...I know I have done it before :)

Well it is also possible for Windows users to run Windows Media Encoder while playing the game to record it as WMV. Might eat up the processor and your frame-rate though... You'd have to play with the settings on WME to limit frame-rate of the video, resolution, etc... It is also possible to use WME to show instructions for installing patches, etc., in screen capture mode.
If you have WMV files can be converted into AVI/MPEG if you have the right tools. I can only manage an AVI, MQV (Sony's version of QuickTime MOV Conversion limited to 320x240 res), and a low resolution MPEG conversion though.
I won't have CS or HL until at least after Christmas but I'd really like to join in the fun. :(

I know this is going to sound really stupid, but honestly the only computer game I have ever played was solitare on my old win. box or GNUchess on my linux machine. What game is this you guys are going to be playing, and what do you do in the game? Also what does it run on? (currently i'm running debian linux, and Mac OS X) so I don't know if I have a machine to run it on. But if it looks cool I might get in.

I play everything from action to strategy and RPG games.
My favorite games include
Batlle Field 1942, the whole Command and Conquer line. Age of Empires, Soldier of Fortune, Ghost Recon, Delta Force: Blackhawk down, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator, and Medal of Honor Allied Assault
Counterstrike: http://www.counter-strike.net/ is what we will be playing. I do believe you can run it on Linux, because a lot of the servers are running Linux so there probably is a port or they are running Wine.
Currently, I am addicted to Morrowind (I am most likely getting the expansion packs this Christmas), CounterStrike and Age of Empires. I do a lot of playing old ROMs too...
yeah the hosting company will be hosting the game on Red Hat.
The give us a shell and ftp access to it.
So whoever is responsible for installing mods and updates, etc will need to know *nix commands.
Only hosting can be on linux but you can't play it on Linux. The server would be dedicated that's why it is running Linux and because as EVERYONE know linux ARE THE BEST for servers.
The 3 best games: Counter-Strike, Diablo II LoD, Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.

you either play as a terrorist or counter-terrorist
matches are team based with different objectives, either (CT = counter-terrorist | T = Terrorist)
Assiniation :: CT's try and stop T's from killing a VIP
Bomb : T's try and bomb an area - CT's have to stop them from either planting bomb or by defusing once planted
HostageRescue : CT's have to resuce hostages held by T's
there are other types of maps but those are the main 3
it all runs off the Halflife engine (as its simply a halflife mod) and although the graphics aint amazing it is still the best game around. Mainly because team-play is encouraged so much. Unless you are playing a very crap team you have to play as a team to win.

I'll play very often and i'll also be contributing $$ as much as I can as often as I can. I love CS and what you guys are doing is pretty cool. I just want to make sure though that the money i'm sending is used for the right purposes.
The money you are sending will be used to help the server stay rented to us, nothing else.
All that we ask is $10 per month. Notice that if per people can contribute, the price will go down.

cheyenne1212 i think that after the IP of the server you should put a : and the port of the server to play. I think default is 27015.

Yeah I would like to see a battlefield part, but battlefield servers are pretty expensive to rent and we don't have enough people interested.
I believe that a 22 player server is like $90 a month.

I have access to a 32 player BF1942 server and a 32 player desert combat server, with full admin. We could always use them. let me know.
We'd probably use a DC server.
We'd need to see how many people were interested in BF though.
IF theres just one or two people thats not really enough to start a clan.
I know you guys are probably set on Counter Strike, but why not instead create a Enemy Territory AntiOnline Clan game server. The reason I say this is because the game Enemy Territory itself is a free download, so we won't have to worry about if everyone can afford a copy.

cxgjarrod thank you for informing me about the server. I went to the server but it really was pretty crappy. You start with 16000 dollars there are no mods on it and the ao members were getting owned left and right. If we do have a server we need to have a good one not one with clan members getting owned. We need to clean the server up.
