you make it sound like it'll all happen in a matter of days or weeks, If it happens at all it'll take decades to a century or more. that is extreamly sudden as earth changes go. empty beaches...i doubt that. just what do you think global warming means? 4, 6, 10 degrees. ever been to jamica? So instead of tearing down old structures to build new ones, we'll just build new ones somewhere else when the old ones wear out. same with bridges and roads. if the earth gets warmer we'll have tropical resorts farther north. life will go on. if a market dies slowley another will take its place. like maybe climate control where rock climing was the main stay

Houston, not too long ago (30-40 thousand years) was the bottom of the gulf. it'll probably go back. the sahara was a jungle maybe this will return. land is raising land is sinking. the continents are moving around. everythng changes. wont be the first time. changing weather patterns have been predicted for a long time even before we had hair spray. the ocean's currents are changing. maybe we'll even get the great lakes back they've been steadly disappearing now for decades.

dont get me wrong im not in favor of polution,,,i f!@#en hate it. it's an election year, dont let them get your goat. speaking of which, one of the major pollutants in the air is methane. from heards of cattle. cow farts. all because you want steak.

How much do those natural pollutants like Mt. Saint Helens or Mt Pinatubo pump out do for global warming?

One of those groups was all upset at the dairy producing states because the methane from cow flatulence was killing the ozone layer .

They actually have a global cooling effect, because of the amount of fine particles they pump ito the atmosphere............it blocks out incoming solar radiation.

besides..... to think the earth will stay as it is forever is not logical. The oceans will rise and fall with time, to think the Earth is stagnant in it's own evolution is to ignore recorded and theorized time and history. For instance, I type this message on a desk that was once covered by an ocean, and a few mile from here are the remnants of ancient beaches and when I was a child my house was once covered with a thousand foot of ice. Entire civilizations have been lost to the oceans and earth changes as she reclaims land and changes her mood.

studys show that the nothwest passage should be open for ships around 2030 and the elsmere island ice cap should be gone by the end of the 24th centuary and the land ready to be developed. far more land will be made habitable than will be lost to rising waters. i dont think the chinese will see the siberian wastlands in northern china made liveable as a great threat. if our respect for the environment grows as well (and it has been) i really dont see a problem. all i see is allot of election year hype

It seems to me that some of you think that global warming and the issue with the ozone layer are the same thing...

They are infact 2 totally separate issues generaly unrelated. By that i mean both are possibly affected by humans.

Global warming is a build up of "greenhouse gasses" in the atmosphere locking in more heat like glass does and melting the icecaps resulting in higher seas.
Affected by industry, volcanoes, algae colonies, etc

The ozone layer is also being damaged (by chemicals??) which allows more ultra violet rays through than normal, this is causing the increased skin cancer.

I personally believe that global waming is a natural thing which occurs every so often.
Im not too sure about the issue with the ozone layer but im siding on the side that this IS humans fault..

just two little things i like to point out. You just sold Siberia to China when it should be Russian and the sahara dessert is the worst possiable example of natural Global climatic change possiable as it, the sahara desert, is the result of serious overgrazing by goat farmers for the pass couple of thousands of years. the desert is still expanding today for the same reasons.
If the global warming predictions are accurate then most of the major cities in the world risk to be under water in the next 100-200 years. Also while a certain area of land may become usable because of the ice caps pulling back it will not nearly compensate the land lost due to both flooding around the coasts and drought along the equator.
Then again if I remeber righly we are long over due for another ice age and the only thing holding it off is the global warming.
Hre is another prediction made in the 1880's : If horse traffic continued to increase at the same rate it had for the fifty years before then by 1980 the world would be covered to a depth of six feet in horse sh*t.
IMHO there is only one thing more stupid and dangerous than ignoring the question and that is trying to force a quick fix solution just to be seen to be doing something.
