Hi,
UN offers Help
Quote:
Reuter
United Nations Undersecretary-General Jan Egeland, who oversaw relief efforts after the Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004, offered Washington U.N. assistance in a formal letter to new U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton.
"The United Nations stands ready to help with any kind of disaster expertise that might be required ... in full recognition that the United States is the country in the world that possesses the greatest civilian and military search and rescue and recovery assets themselves," Egeland told Reuters in an interview.
He said U.S. officials had thanked the U.N. for its offer, but had not requested any assistance so far.
Egeland called Katrina one of "the largest, most destructive natural disasters ever."
Germany Offers Help
Russia Offers HelpQuote:
Bloomberg
German Foreign Minister Joschka offered assistance to the U.S. government in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which has caused devastation on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
``The federal government is prepared to give any assistance or support to bring this terrible natural disaster and its effects under control,'' Fischer said in an e-mailed statement today, without elaborating on the offer.

Russia is ready to assist the United States in dealing with the damage caused by hurricane Katrina, which has taken 68 lives so far and left behind a tremendous amount of devastation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to U.S. President George Bush Tuesday.
"Russia deeply sympathizes with Americans, who faced a disaster of such a colossal scale, and is ready to offer necessary assistance," Putin said.
Australian, New Zealand Offers Help
The list is much much Bigger than this .........Virtually the whole International community offers help, prayers ......Quote:

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Australia is sending sympathy and an offer of help for the U-S Gulf Coast in its recovery from Hurricane Katrina.
For starters, it's sending two emergency management experts who advised Indonesian officials in the aftermath of last year's
tsunami disaster. Prime Minister John Howard, in a personal message to President Bush, expresses what he says is the concern of all Australians for those who've lost so much because of "terrible natural disaster."
Prime Minister Helen Clark of New Zealand has also sent condolences and notes her country's willingness to help. She says the harm the storm has caused so many people is shocking.

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia - For Nimal Premasiri, televised images of water surging into New Orleans triggered painful memories. He lost his wife and daughter just eight months ago when waves "big as elephants" crashed into a packed commuter train in Sri Lanka.
"God has made us equals in birth, life and death," Premasiri, 51, said Wednesday.
Though the Dec. 26 earthquake and tsunami was far more deadly than the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina, many in Asian nations hardest hit by the killer waves — from Indonesia to Thailand and Sri Lanka — felt acute sympathy with Katrina's victims.
The hurricane flooded large parts of New Orleans and several other areas along the Gulf Coast, killing hundreds. Two levees also broke in New Orleans, spilling water into the streets and swamping the below-sea-level city.
Raju Danny, 26, who lost his wife to raging tsunami torrents in Indonesia, said he "felt tears welling up when I saw that so many people had died."
"I would like to help, but all I have is my prayers," the waiter said during a break from serving rice and fried chicken to customers in the seaside town of Banda Aceh.
More than 200,000 people were killed or missing after the tsunami, inspiring a massive international emergency response and a huge worldwide fund-raising drive.
People in Indonesia's Aceh province, which lost a staggering 130,000 people, recalled in particular the massive humanitarian effort undertaken by the U.S. military following the disaster.
Within days, U.S. choppers were dropping off water and emergency supplies to stranded villagers and collecting injured survivors.
"America helped us a lot, and they were genuine too," said Reza Saputra, a 19-year-old student. "One of their helicopters even crashed here."
In Sri Lanka, where the tsunami killed 31,000 and left tens of thousands homeless, several people also said pictures of the devastation caused by Katrina brought back vivid memories.
"When I see the images from Katrina, I can easily identify," said Chulie de Silva, a
World Bank executive who lost her brother in the tsunami. "We were just (like) them on Dec. 26. At least they had warning; we had none."
"The lives of men, women, children were snuffed out in a few seconds," she said, recalling the look of agony on people's faces as the waves swept them away, and later, the stench of death.
"My brother lay on his back, no shirt, his handsome face peaceful," she said. "I pray and hope not many sisters" in the United States will suffer in the same way.
Many in India, where some 10,700 people died, also felt the pain caused by events unfolding a half a world away, said Barry Mackey, regional program manager in New Delhi for Habitat for Humanity, an international housing charity based in Americus, Ga.
"The people here are definitely watching news of Katrina, and since they had to respond to the tsunami just last year, they do sympathize with Katrina's victims," he said, predicting their sorrow would only magnify as the real death toll emerged.
But he said he did not think the disaster would mean a loss of promised funds for tsunami reconstruction in the island nation.
"We have loyal donors and the program will not suffer," he said.
Thailand saw some 7,000 dead or missing, including many foreign vacationers.
Yowalak Thiarachow, the country's program manager for the British humanitarian agency Oxfam, said relief workers and residents "saw the pictures of people being evacuated (in New Orleans) and we couldn't believe our eyes."
Though many here see the United States as more advanced, the devastation in New Orleans "shows Thai people and Americans are in the same boat," she said.
Still, Thiarachow noted, U.S. authorities are more capable when it comes to providing emergency assistance, so many victims will get needed help.
Prattana Nuntaratpun, who works for a Thai TV station, she had not heard of any of the station's viewers calling in to donate or write letters to people affected by Katrina.
"Thai people wouldn't react that way. It's too far from us," she said. "People probably aren't thinking as far as Katrina," she said.
Peace

|Getting Free Gas by: sodium |
-----------------------------------------------------------
Intro
So, you just got back from ripping off some pay
phones? Maby you were out trashing the local telco trying to
find par's for your ohki? Well all that phreak'n comes with
a price, your going to have to get some gas for your fly
ride. You might ask:
Mr. Sodium lord of the telco, how am i gona snag some free gas?
The Oasis System [superamerica/speedway]
Well first, your going to have to steal an id. This
is easyer than fuXX0ring that hoe on the street corner.
All you have to do is find someone thats drunk, or stoned
and rip them off. Easy enough? Your going to have to find a
gas station that has those "on pump credit card readers".
Usualy when you put a regular card into the credit
card reader the oasis system will show "CARD" on the
register display. The CSR's do not hear a beeping sound or
anything. This works to our advantage because:
1) Thay dont know we are out there.
CSR's hate to be in the register area looking at
the lot so use this to your advantage. Also, 3rd
shift sucks ass for these people, thay might be
in the back working on **** (good for you).
Remember CSR's will come running to the registers
if thay hear a beeping sound!!
2) When your "credit card" is pulled out, the CARD
sign will just dissapair. Thay will never know your
there if the CSR isnt by the registers.
3) CSR's love it when people pay with cards, thay
might be by the register at the time you drive up
and leave the area cause "He's paying with a card,
its not like hes going to drive off."
Now, we all know credit cards and drivers licences are
two different things right? Well people in ohio are going to
love this, cause those driver's licences and id's that have the
mag strip's on them.... can be used to get free gas.
All you have to do is insert your card into the reader,
dont take it out like it says to. The pump at this point will
malfunction and will start pumping free gas. (remember to select
your octane). After your tank is nice and full. Stop pumping
the gas, and set the pump down on the ground.
At this point, it is good that you have that drunk guys
licence. Cause if you take the card out of the reader, the
register is going to start beeping (alerting the CSR that you
have to pay for your gas). To give you a better idea how this methoid
works.. heres an inside memo that i got by trashing a
local gas station:

Subject: ATTEMPTED DRIVE-OFF
SIR,
ON TUE. 07-07-98 A SUBJECT PULLED TO PUMP # 5 AND
PUT A CARD INTO THE CREDIT CARD READER AND STARTED TO
PUMP GAS. THE OASIS SYSTEM SHOWED CARD ON THE
REGISTERS AND THE PUMP WAS AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATED AS
WITH A CREDIT CARD.
AFTER PUMPING $17.00 IN GAS THE SUBJECT LAID THE
NOZZEL ON THE GROUND AND JUMPED INTO THE VEHICLE AND
DROVE-OFF. THE CSR'S NOTICED THIS AND WENT OUT TO
HANG-UP THE NOZZLE. WHEN SHE HUNG-UP THE NOZZLE SHE
FOUND THE CARD STILL IN THE CREDIT CARD READER. WHEN
SHE PULLED THIS OUT SHE FOUND THAT IT WAS THE SUBJECTS
DRIVERS LICENCE. ( THIS IS THE NEW OHIO DRIVERS
LICENSE WITH THE MAGNETIC STRIP ON IT.) SHE THEN CAME
BACK IN THE STORE AND NOTIFIED THE MANAGER AND THE
DAYTON POLICE DEPT. WAS CALLED.
SHORTLY AFTER CALLING THE DAYTON P.D. THE
SUBJECT RETURNED TO THE STORE AND HAD HIS FRIEND CHECK
THE PUMP FOR HIS LICENCE AND THEN HE CAME INTO THE
STORE FOR IT. WHEN HE WAS TOLD THAT HE COULD HAVE HIS
DRIVERS LICENSE WHEN HE PAYED FOR THE GAS, HE STARTED
TO AGRUE THAT HE HAD PAID FOR THE GAS ON HIS CREDIT
CARD, HE WAS ADVISED THAT HE HAD NOT AND THAT HE COULD
WAIT FOR THE POLICE DEPT. AND TALK TO THEM. AT THIS
TIME THE DRIVER CAME INTO THE STORE AND PAYED FOR THE
GAS.
APPARENTLY THE SYSTEM READ SOMETHING ON THE
DRIVERS LICENSE STRIP AND AS LONG AS IT WAS LEFT IN
THE READER ALLOWED HIM TO PUMP GAS. BUT AS SOON AS THE
LICENSE WAS REMOVED FROM THE READER THE PURCHASE WENT
FROM CARD ON THE REGISTER TO 17.00.
IT APPEARS TO ME THAT SOMEONE HAS FOUND A WAY TO
EITHER FOOL, BY-PASS, OR CONFUSE THE SYSTEM WITH THE
NEW OHIO STATE DRIVERS LICENSE. THE CSR'S DID NOT
AUTHORIZE THE PUMP, IT WAS AUTOMATICLLY AUTHORIZED
LAKE A NORMAL CREDIT CARD TRANSACTION AT THE PUMP AND
APPEARED THAT WAY ON THE REGISTER. OR THERE IS A FLAW
IN THE SYSTEM AT THIS STORE.
THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT AFTER THE DRIVERS
LICENSE WAS REMOVED FROM THE READER IT SAID ( GENERIC
BIOS V 51.1.6 ) AND WE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO CLEAR THIS
OR USE THE CARD READER ON THIS PUMP.
SUBMITTED FOR YOUR INFORMATION AND FUTHER
INVESTIGATION.
RESPECTFULLY,
THOMAS D. TRAINER
MANAGER STORE # 5365
Well apparently it wasnt only there store
that had a flaw in the system. This inside memo had
a 20 store fowarding list, and was passed around the
hole country.
The Old Skool Art of Driveing Off
How hard is just driveing off? Well if you dont
want to get caught, its involves alot. First, your going
to have to get a location thats open 24/7 and has about
2 people every shift (pretty understaffed hu?). These
are usualy Circle K's or Clark's. Usualy these places
get alot of bussness durring 2nd shift, when everyone
is getting off from work. You ether want to drive off
at night when the people are 1/2 asleep and cleaning.
Or, during the day when the pumps are packed. Personaly
i recommend durring the day for 2 reasons. One, the
people working are getting hit with a ton of people
and arent going to be able to run after your fly ride
ripp'n off some gas. And two, people on 2nd shift come
and go all the time. So if you drive off one week and
the little bastard working inside is out to get you,
dont worry. His ass will be out the door next week.
Driveing off takes some prepration. Make sure
you have atleast one other person with you. If your car
has t-tops or is a convertable. Take them off or put
da **** down. This makes it harder for you to be
identifyed. When you pull up to the gas station.
Goto the pump farthest from the store, and nearest to
the exits. Theres nothing that sucks more, that trying
to drive off and haveing to wait to get out of the
parking lot. When you are filling up your Fly Ride.
Get your bro to move to the drivers site and open
the backdoor for you a little. When your done filling
up your tank look around and see if theres anyone
watching your ass from the inside. If there
busy. Jump into the back seat and tell your friend to
floor it. If the CSR's are watching you from the
inside, take this time to wash your windows. Or do other
things to make them stop watching you.

Well thats about it, my first text for The MOB.
Hope you all find it interesting. Maybe it will save you
all some money or something.
Remember its not right to steal, the goverment
hates to compete.

sounds good, except if the gas station has cameras ;(
You know, It sucks about New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. To make matters worse, with most of us being in Iraq, there aren't even enough National Guard soldiers left in MS to help with relief efforts. To make matters worse, there are alot of guys from the coast that don't have a home to come home to...they lost everything.
Besides the sheer loss of life from Katrina, that sucks the most. They take it in stride though.
I know one guy fom New Orleans here, and I asked him about his family (he was going home on emergency leave) and he said that they we're fine but his house was destroyed. So I said "What are you doing to do?"
His response: "Well, I think I might scuba dive in the French Quarter!"
Can you believe that...he just lost everything, and he's cracking jokes!
Hey that picture of the guy sitting out there waiting to kill a thief. Ummmmmmmmm.... when you see that type of ****, that's when you need martial law!
It's all about how you were raised.
Guy kills his sister over a bag of ice.
Women being raped.
Ahhhh... the caveman logic, the worst outcrop of herd life and the ghetto, a true plague-spot of civilization. Too many puppies as primus would say.
From the news.......... churches are going to be feeding and supplying shelter to the majority of the homeless.
off topic: No point in reading what country pledged what, only what they have given.
For those in the area who are able and interested, Craigslist and moveon.org are letting people list their houses for evacuess to stay in.
My husband and I have been in this situation before...they tell you to get out, but where do you go, and how do you pay for it? Not all families are able to indefinately afford a hotel room.
Deb's right - most aren't. Remember they have no access to their bank accounts, so they're either living on what cash they have, or their credit cards, and that's it.
In our area: Refugees are also now being offered part time employment to help them get through the cleanup process and still afford to live. Work is being done through state legislature to permit those with out of state professional licenses (like Dr's, Lawyers, Nurses, Paramedics, etc) to work temporarily in this state on their out of state license. If you live here in TX and haven't heard of this yet, contact your state rep asap and add your support for such a bill!
And when you're living in a hotel and eating every meal out, every snack, every drink, cash and credit cards run out pretty damn fast. Especially if you had to leave most of your clothes and personal belongings behind.
I was watching a story on CNN that I found a bit amusing. CNN reporters stop these two teenagers that had just finished robbing a store; they said the police officers stopped them and took their sneakers (the showed their feet were bare) so they decided to get a new pair of sneakers. My question is the following: Why would the police office take a teenagers sneakers?Quote:

The reporter was like dont you see anything wrong with what your doing ... The guy was like well the cops haven't said anything so it's ok and well who cares ... I am like there's people who need help and the first damn thing on your mind is to go and rob someones home or store ???
What the hell is wrong with people ???
My prayers will be with those people hopefully things dont becoming any worse ...
Wow... I was talking to my dad about 3 hours ago... He just moved back to Missouri around a month ago from Louisiana. He lived in a town called Hammond, which is kind of in between NO and Baton Rouge. He saw footage on CNN about 5 blocks from his old house, with all the debris and destruction... Crazy...
Just to answer the original question (not that it hasn't already been answered): the entire world is right there to help, Tiger...
Every single country in the world offered its help before Bush turned on his TV and found out...
It's time to swallow some pride and save some lives... or do other countries have to swear that they won't ask for help back ("We helped you... WAAAHAWAAAHAHAHAHAH... You have to help us now!.. WAHAHAHAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA"), and pledge eternal yadayada?
I think he was just breaking balls for shits and giggles. The foreigners will be here to help whether we asked for their help or not. Tragedies like this bring out the best in a lot of people, political differences aside. Tragedies like this also bring out the worst in a few **** heads.
I want to hear from the "African American" voice in this country......Rev. Jesse Jackson.. Al Sharpton...that Ayatollah black panther whatever the hell he is. I haven't heard **** from them and they had some pissed brothers on the radio the other day bitching about this and they're right!
!mitation > this is one of those things were (D) or (R) shouldn't matter...
Here's ONE tip: get the Dutchies involved!
They've been dealing with it for 50 years (and guess what: it worked!)... and they've got.... never mind
And you know what, I saw their stuff on Modern Marvels and I was extremely impressed with that North Sea water gate the "Measlandkering"! (had to dig it up, I believe that's it) And the images online don't do it any justice because it shows the engineering skill and the ingenuity of the Dutch.
edit: I was spelling it wrong.... "mae" ....I had to get that link to work.

Saw the news last night. NO is more lilke 'Escape from New York' right now.
I've got to agree with the commontators is looks bad when the US can't airdrop some bottled water to the places where people have run to safety like the convention centre.
The National Guard are now scared to go into some areas (BBC). Someone should kick them up the arse and get them working.
GWB is coming out looking bad from this. The levees breaking had been predicted for years and again just last year but the funding to maintain and improve the levee system was diverted to pay for Ws Homeland security airport nudie scanners and other toys.

Negative is spot on!
The Dutch are the experts. Actually, they have over 500 years' experience and were responsible for the drainage and defences of the East Anglian Fens in the UK.
From a review of a book "The Waterlands"Quote:
Fenland drainage began back in the 17th century, when it was first undertaken on a large scale by Dutch immigrants. (The word “fen” is itself cognate with the Dutch “veen” – low, reedy, marshy ground regularly inundated by the tides.) As in Holland, the work continues to this day.
:)
Ya, like half our country is below sealevel, we actually used to flood our own land so the spanish and everyone had a real hard time invading us... Untill the germans build airplanes.
We did offer to and prolly also did already send experts who inspect the dikes (spelling?) over here, but they prolly should've gone there before the storm since the dikes in new orleans obviously weren't in the shape they should've been.
It's goddamn Mogadishu down there and those rebels are high on khat!
Looks like the cavalry's arrived. Too bad it's a day late and a dollar short.
LinkQuote:
(CNN) -- A convoy of military vehicles plowed through the flooded streets of New Orleans on Friday bringing food, water and medicine to the thousands of people trapped at a downtown convention center.
The relief effort came as President Bush toured the Gulf Coast to survey damage from Hurricane Katrina and shortly after the mayor of New Orleans said the city was "holding on by a thread."
Hi,
Dammm one Tough Guy
Is there ANY chance that NO will survive ????
with THAT much water, the ground will be logged even when it's pumped out .........
Wouldn't it be easier to re-build the city elsewhere ? on HIGHER ground ?
by elsewhere, I don't mean Michigan :) just a few miles inland ............
and just how long ARE the estimates till the levees are 'repaired' ??
because they can't even BEGIN to pump till then ..........
Everyone wants beach front property so it will probably be built in the same spot ;)Quote:

it surely cannot be that important to rebuild the civilian housing there again ???
maybe the industrial / military infrastructures, but nothing else.
And who pays for the re-build anyway ???
is that what the disaster relief funding is for ???
will you get your home re-built whether you were insured or not ??
IF you get re-built when you had NO insurance, what do those who DID have insurance getting out of the deal ??
wouldn't that be the death knell of the insurance business ???
Hmmm,
Shouldn't be too difficult Foxy~ ?
1. A basic value of "x" is assigned from relief.
2. If you are not insured you get "x"
3. If you are insured you get your insurance and a top-up to "x" if required, but no more than a top-up (that will teach you not to underinsure)
4. If you are a landlord you get bugger all except your insurance (you are a business, and should be properly insured?)
I do not see it as the duty of the State to provide more than basic essentials?
Anyway, a fancy house that survived is probably only worth about 20% of its previous value now? and try to insure the bloody thing :D
Well the projects (government housing) should be built further north or in Baton Rouge and they'll need to build probably three times as many now. And I don't agree with close proximity housing like that. I think it only promotes crime, pity parties, low self-esteem, no hope, breeding ground etc....
Now most of the coastal areas of LA are made of sand-mud, methane mud, southern pines(where it's dry), live oaks(where it's dry), cypress trees(where iit's wet), swamps, and a **** load of saw grass and bayous. That's where the swamp Creoles live. Not exactly like the coast of Florida, though the wetlands of Florida are exactly like the LA swamps and rural areas in the south. As for the Creoles, they're probably all dead!
I heard they are about to do a quarantine on the whole city.
it would be good if they did the same to new orleans that they did to galviston in 1900.
After galveston was hit with an unnammed hurricane that leveled the entire island killing thousands, people from all over the world got together and raised the entire island nineteen feet and built a sea wall to protect it.
with structures like the bishops mansion which was too heavy to raise the first floor became an upper basement.
the city would remain exactly where it was and with large sturctures being partially buried it adds (IMO) more tourism appeal. years from now when people see the partially buried buildings then hear the story behind it, well its definitly something that stays with you. at least thats how galveston affected me.
but anyway the mortality figures seem to be much greater than reported in the news a friend of my g/f is a nurse in new orleans and she says the media is really playing it down and that they're bringing bodys in by the truckload. which kind of goes along with this article:
notice that she (the govener) only asked for troops thursday and they ARE pouring in. the feds really couldn't do much, s far as deploying army troops inside the US goes. until she did ask.Quote:
BATON ROUGE, United States (AFP) - US Senator David Vitter said that the death toll from Hurricane Katrina could top 10,000 in Louisiana alone.
"My guess is that it will start at 10,000, but that is only a guess," Vitter said, adding that he was not basing his remarks on any official death toll or body count.
Vitter, a Louisiana Republican, also called for the immediate deployment of regular US combat troops in New Orleans, saying the build-up of National Guard troops was too slow to quickly restore order.
Such a step would require Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco to formally request the dispatch of federal army soldiers, a highly unusual step.
Blanco said on Thursday that she had asked for 40,000 troops, the majority of which are National Guard units from Louisiana and elsewhere.
Full Story
Fox - there's insurance money, and there's federal disaster relief money. Everyone gets the latter, but only those who paid to be insured get the former. Under 'normal' circumstances (keeping in mind that the devastation caused by Katrina is NOT normal, being the worst natural disaster the US has experienced in modern times) the fed $ is usually enough to rebuild or at least restart people back close to where they were prior to the catastrophe. The insurance, then, becomes the 'kicker' - kind of a payback for the pain and discomfort of going through the casualty to begin with.
In this particular situation, and understanding that Louisiana has the highest property insurance rates of any state in our Union, I'm afraid most people will be getting pennies on the dollar for their losses, both from the fed money and their own insurance. I see where the infrastructure will be restored, possibly even the commercial centers, but nowhere near what they once were. 2 days ago I mentioned that there were upwards of 20k refugees staying in our town alone. A poll was taken of those who wanted to input to it by our local news today asking them if they wanted to rebuild after this was over, or would they prefer to go on with life elsewhere. Most answered the latter.
Ahem, sometimes I really am a girl...this made me teary-eyed.
Imagine them pledging that amount of money. Granted, there are countries listed in the article that pledged a great deal more, but I think you have to consider what it's coming out of, too.Quote:
Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga said she and her fellow citizens felt solidarity with those affected.
"Having experienced the fury of nature ourselves during the December 26 tsunami, the people of Sri Lanka and I fully empathize with you at this hour of national grief," she said in a message to the U.S.
And while the small island nation is still recovering from the tsunami disaster, it also pledged $25,000 to the American Red Cross, the AP reported.
deb i think thats really a beautiful thing.
now the question i have about this is...should we accept it? sure it would help a little but we really dont need it as bad as they do. but wouldn't accepting it help then regain some dignity in their own eyes. not that they have lost any. they've actually gained quite a bit in my eyes. i just think accepting it would help them recover spiritually. we can just dump it back into them on the sly.
I agree...I think not taking it would be a slap in the face, and totally disrespectful. I'm sure that we'll give them more money than that this year alone ;) but still...it's the thought that counts, always, and that's a lovely thought, that people that poor would be willing to help others, especially when those "others" come from one of the most privileged countries in the world.
Hey Hey,
I can't believe that people are attack the UN and other countries for not helping out.... The US may be high on the list of contributors for the Tsunami, but that was due to private donations. When you look at per capita, the US provided next to nothing in support.. 3.39/person.. compare that with the top 15
The US support was quite sad... or how about the recent Live8 events for Africa... and the requests that were made after that... again the US was the last to jump on the bandwagon... The US is the first to step in at times of War... (or to make war).. but other than that they're very slow to react... Why should they expect anything different in return.. Treat people the way you expect to be treated and the world is treating the US better than the US has treated it.Quote:
1. Norway $57.71 per person
2. Australia $47.95 per person
3. Kuwait $42.81 per person
4. Qatar $28.96 per person
5. Netherlands $27.21 per person
6. Switzerland $21.08 per person
7. Denmark $20.24 per person
8. New Zealand $20.23 per person
9. Ireland $19.51 per person
10. Finland $16.86 per person
11. Sweden $16.04 per person
12. Canada $15.25 per person
13. Luxembourg $14.51 per person
14. Germany $12.99 per person
15. Austria $11.16 per person
How about Cuba's offer.. (It should also be noted that this offer was almost made August 30th and denied then as well... and they also offered to ship all the food and water that these people would require so that it wouldn't be a burden on the US).
Bush is refusing to accept this support... Perhaps the problem isn't the rest of the world offering support, but the President of the US turning away that support. The other day I heard the Mayor of New Orleans on the news actually telling Bush off... saying that flying over the site wasn't actually being there and that he was "pissed off" that Bush was doing so little in support.Quote:
Cuban President Fidel Castro reiterates medical care offer to the American people in his remarks during the TV round table, September 2, 2005, 6:00 pm:
"Our country is ready to send, in the small hours of morning, 100 clinicians and specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine, who at dawn tomorrow, Saturday, could be in Houston International Airport, Texas, the closest to the region struck by the tragedy, in order to be transferred by air, sea or river to the isolated shelters, facilities and neighborhoods in the city of New Orleans, where the population and families are that require emergency medical care or first aid.
"These Cuban personnel would be carrying backpacks with 24 kilograms of medications, known to be essential in such situations to save lives, as well as basic diagnosis kits. They would be prepared to work alone or in groups of two or more, depending on the circumstances, for as long as necessary.
"Likewise, Cuba is ready to send via Houston, or any other airport of your choosing, 500 additional specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine, with the same equipment, who could be at their destination point at noon or in the afternoon of tomorrow, Saturday, September 3.
"A third group of 500 specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine could be arriving in the morning of Sunday, September 4. Thus, the 1100 said medical doctors, with the resources described tantamount to 26.4 tons of medications and diagnosis kits, would be caring for the neediest persons in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.
"These medical doctors have the necessary international experience and elementary knowledge of the English language that would allow them to communicate with the patients.
"We stand ready waiting for the US authorities' response."
There is lots of support there, but as always the US government is too proud to ask for help... Do you think people stepped in for the Tsunami immediately.... I'm pretty sure there was prolly requests for Aid that went out.. .Maybe instead of attack the UN over no providing the support you should attack Bush for not requesting support or accepting the offered support.
Peace,
HT

The Company I work for provided employees and facilities for a large telethon that was recently held across the US... On top of donating everything, they also donated $4/hour/person during the Telethon.

Seriously kid go take a Midol............... your whole life (and I know it's miserable) seems to be devoted to "Americans suck at this, Americans suck at that" ......blahblah.........."look at the stupid Americans"............that's all you do in your bubble up there. Probably because your "life" sucks.
Of course you are going to capitalize off this disaster with another stupid tirade.........much like a house of cards built on a foundation of assumption. You’re jealous and you've made it apparent. You whish Canada was actually known for something.......to be a trendsetter, etc... Instead it's known for bacon, mad cow, Avril lavigne, Jim carey, "eh" and gay marriage. :)
Go take a Midol for that PMS of yours and spare us the diatribes.

I'm commenting on how little support the US provides, how much support has been offered and how the US has turned it down... How is this an attack... it shows some stupidity (turning down help in a time of need is stupid.. regardless of who you are)... but I'm just adding some factual evidence... As for what Canada has done.. Canada has done a lot more for the world than the US... but this is neither the time nor the place for that.
Peace,
HT

Well allright, but since 98% of AO is rebublican it saves me some time typing... This is prolly gonne turn out in a war against nature. **** kyoto, because nature flooded our city !! And the terrorist helped nature by, eh... supplying weapons to the citizens !!
Watch what you say about Kyoto.... we wouldn't want to upset the US... from time to time they get to forget that they're destroying the earth and they enjoy their refusal to participate in actions that would help prevent the destruction of the earth...Quote:

As far as Mr. Rusts comments... I find that it's a common action for North Americans (especially those low on intelligence) to resort to insults when presented with facts and figures.

Have you noticed that rather than continue with these discussions which are completely legit and present Facts... Mr. Rust has chosen to run and start a new thread... a 'clean' slate... I get in **** for Addicts and have my threads merged that are completely different because one referenced a topic in the other... yet he's able to start a new thread on the same topic because he wants more UN and World-Wide bashing and wants to hide the figures and facts that I've presented regarding the US and their time of need.... ridiculous.
