Canadian Election (Split from blasphemous(Part1))

Just a point of view from an outsider - since I took great notice of this on reading this thread...

It's an amazing thing that nobody from outside Canada has offered up their point of view on the Canadian elections. I say this because during the US elections, it seemed that EVERYONE had a point of view. Perhaps it's because Canada is viewed as being of no consequence, or perhaps everyone just wanted to get a finger in the USA's pie? I truly don't know. It's ironic though.

To keep the ongoing trend in the right direction, I won't offer an opinion either.

Musta been that blow to the head that still has you razzed up a-boot the Healthcare situation - you do not even realize, even with the imperfections in it, that the Canada Healthcare system is still better than most countries - and I know because I have traveled and lived in other countries.

Some of that is fair, mostly because the community you grew up in was not Military orientated, so you wouldn't be able to see the benefits that a Military Community provides.

I was in Europe during a Nato cruise when my Daughter was born, she was 4 1/2 Months old by the time I first saw her, so please knock off the patronization, about sacrifice, cause you truly wouldn't understand.

There's a differene between killing someone.. and beating someone to a pulp... Two guys going at it bare fists is nothing but good clean entertainment... a way to blow off a little steam... As for coming to the US... I'm there quite often... your military doesn't look much better than the Canadian military... only difference there if I tried to fight bare knuckle, they'd pull out a gun and fire... It's all they know..

Better than some.. but you can only really compare it to the G8... of which several of them beat us.... but that's beside the point... It doesn't matter if it's better than others.. what matters is if it's acceptable or not... and it isn't... My step father had to lay in the hospital in my hometown for over a month because there were no beds down here at the "real hospitals".. If it's anything more than having your appendix removed you go elsewhere... but they have no beds for people

How does that make me a hyopcrite? I'm all for peace... which would explain the whole antimilitary thing.... The US Military is not exactly known for creating peaceful situtations... they get peace only after they kill everyone... if Harper is elected that's how the Canadian Military will be...

I think that's why you found most people that fought in WWI and WWII did it.. those that weren't enlisted before hand.. they were willing to fight for peace... That's worthy of respect... Unfortunately it's true... the majority of people are of low intelligence... My cousin and I have often thought it would be nice to require mandatory IQ tests and kill those below a certain IQ.... Not realistic... but could you imagine a world where you wouldn't have to deal with idiots...

Alrighty.. that's immature... How about murderers and accessories to murder? I'm willing to be that most of the people you know who have served helped out a fellow soldier that shot someone... or trained them... or handed them their gun... or signed them up...

Korea wasn't a real war, so 287 to do nothing after getting out.. that's pretty good... As for the pulling a cord or choking.. that was in referene to dying during duty.. if he was getting a pension he didn't die during duty.. Even then.. the 287 plus his Canada Pension (which all you old timers have drained so there wont' be any left for us)... that's not bad... As for drinking... I might spend 100 bucks on a big night out... but even when you factor that in.. I might spend 150 every 6 months...

You're still avoiding answering my question... because you know I'm right... also what do I have to do with Toronto... I'm not from there and I've never lived there.. Had they not put money into the military the government could have built another shelter to save those peoples lives...

Are you talking in the Military community itself?? (so they look out for your own) or to the entire community....

We had the Armouries where I grew up.. so yes.. not military oriented... but here We've got the Barracks and a Base...I still see nothing from them... well Wait... They put up a barb-wire fence across the path that allowed easy access to school children trying to get from my neighbourhood to the Community Center/playground.. turning a 2 minute walk into a 15 minute walk along the busiest street in the city....

That was your choice... I'd rather be there for my family... than overseas... I guess this is where we'll never see eye to eye.. If you decide to do something of your own free will...that has no benefit... that's not a sacrifice... You could have been there for her birth.. you weren't... a sacrifice would have been if you'd gone off to fight in a war and she was born while you were fighting the war... being in the military during peacetime... bah... that's just easy money

When you say in a Military community do you mean like a big base with housing on the base... as in that's the community... That's a legit question in my opinion... or did you mean a community that has military present.... It could be either.... I'll assume the first one... and while their may be benefits... It's a trick question regardless and it is life or death.... In the question you can't afford to help both.... in the real world... we can't afford to help both... Dalek pointed out about the homeless in Toronto freezing to death... Had money we'd given overseas stayed here.. that could have changed... When you talk family, loved ones, friends... a person will always decide to stay "local".... When you talk the world.... you're a bad person if you want to stay local...

Even if all the resources were pulled in to fix all the problems that you have brought up we still wouldn't be able to fix them .... Really you should know that it takes more than money to fix a problem .... But until people decide open their eyes nothing will change ... Everything will remain the same ... It does take more than money... so put the military to work building shelters for the homeless... if we're going to have them make use of them.. don't let them just sit around and take money from us.... As for insults....you started the minute you opened up about the rank and file in the Military, I would have no gripe with you and possibly would agree on some points if you left your inane comments to just the Military Brass (Future politicians) and the politicians and not the rank and file, most of the problems in Canada as I see it, are due to geographics, I am sure you could really give a rats ass about people living on the East Coast or actually anywhere outside the borders of Ontario....be honest, as long as you in cozy Ontario are safe and sound in your'e little universe, who cares right.

The fact that Victoria and Halifax are home to the only Naval bases in Canada, means we have an awareness of how we have been let down by the rest of Canada, there is no Canada as a whole, because everything is regionalised, NIMBY....

The military is a way of life... you give your life if you join... I've always heard that... I don't think they should have even received the extra 12 bucks... If you're salaried you don't need to get OT at all... I don't get OT when I work 60 and 70 hour weeks... Lots of other people don't either... You do what is needed of you.... Who cares if their civilian counterparts got extra... They could refuse the OT.. and walk away (some with the RCMP)... their companies decided that they were worth paying to have there... This whole paper sounds like a fight for more funding for the military and the whining of soldiers.. I can talk to her basically whenever because she doesn't work... they've got a kid or two... and a nice little house.. she stays home all day and he works and they're getting by just fine.. they can even afford semi annual trips back home... which I can't afford for myself and I'm in the same province.. .they're 3 provinces away.. So I'd say the pay is adequate...

I care about some parts of Canada.... Not to much about Quebec... that whole seperatist thing ruined it for me... I think they should be cast away like they want... "We will leave your country and be independant, but we'll use yoru currency and you'll protect us and yada yada yada"... that was BS.. no one that's sane can respect the province after that.. I could also care less about Nunavut... that was a stupid thing... We wronged your ancestors.. have a bunch of land... it's BS... The rest of Canada... I care about it...

I agree that poison should be spouted at politicians.. but it should also go towards the military.. I see numbers in there like 9 Billion... that's a ridiculous sum of money in my opinion... I see no need to lower military funding.... but I think it's awful to consider raising it... the politicians raising military funding is my idea of them squandering away taxpayers money...

As for dealing with the sailors... not a problem :D... I grew up working with my dad doing sheet metal... After that I did construction... Plus in the snoopy nintendo game, I always knock the other player overboard :D..

I went on beyond that page (which definately makes it seem like soldiers are getting the short end of the stick)... but then i read some of the pay stuff... things like this stuck out

The military is a way of life... you give your life if you join... I've always heard that... I don't think they should have even received the extra 12 bucks... If you're salaried you don't need to get OT at all... I don't get OT when I work 60 and 70 hour weeks... Lots of other people don't either... You do what is needed of you.... Who cares if their civilian counterparts got extra... They could refuse the OT.. and walk away (some with the RCMP)... their companies decided that they were worth paying to have there... Civilian Workers again.. their companies put them up in Hotels... there's nothing wrong with being billeted in a gym... it does the trick... Again the military is supposed to be a way of life.... This whole paper sounds like a fight for more funding for the military and the whining of soldiers.. Complaining about public opinion (public opinion is that way for a reason).. complaining about pay... it's awful...

I won't comment on the elections, as I obviously know nothing about the personalities involved.

As for the military side of things, I would comment that there is obviously some sort of entry level threshold?

For example, the UK has thermonuclear submarines, a relatively large navy and aircraft carriers. These are rather expensive, and would explain why our defence expenditure per capita is much higher than Canada's.

As for troop deployment in bad weather/disaster situations. This makes sense to me, a lot of times our guys do that sort of thing, because it gives them an opportunity to practice with their equipment. And we are paying them for that anyways so it makes sense if they do something useful (even the 18 hole golf course.............serious!!!! :D )

How is "poverty" defined. Over here I have not seen many sleeping rough who did not chose to do so. We have a lot of social welfare benefits, free healthcare, supplementary income benefits, free housing and so on................I suspect that this is not taken into account? OK we have winos and druggies, but that is their chosen lifestyle?

Another thing is your local cost of living. For example I can live here in the boondocks for about 60% of what it would cost me to live in London.
