Hey Allen,
Have you signed up with the RIAA yet?
I hope not, cos I have just been downloading your stuff whilst I set up one of my 7 speaker 5.2 systems.... a bit dated I know, but my day to day crap costs between 3 and 10 bucks :D I think the card is a Turtle Beach?
Cheers,
Johnno
Those are NICE cards!
Yes,
I remember when I set it up properly (before we moved last)........... it was awesome in that you felt you were in the middle of the band rather in the bongpit or whatever :D
I wanted to use computer tech to listen first.............. I have an open mind, but I prefer a like on like test first?
:)
Yea I heard nothing but good about those Sound Cards. I'd have one but I think a mid-grade Sound Blaster is still cheaper and works fine for me, but if I find one decent priced I'll grab one.
By the way, I finished the album on Halloween day. I thought that was right to do. I burned an initial 10 copies, and it has 17 tracks.
I already have some remixes in mind which I could release as well and can make more music but I need to sell at least 3 more so I can buy some more CD-Rs.
not bad stuff man!!!
gore core: good song, needs a melody, something simple to tie the whole thing together.
the night he came...: too electronic. The piano sounds too generic.
monster bash tranz: I liked this one.
digital fear: really liker this one, i dig the guitar.
in general: 7 out of 10 (would be lower if it were made with all the best stuff). I think you need more bass as well as the above mentioned tips.
p.s. I used to d.j. and I could imagine blue hair moving to your beats.
Thanks.
The Gore Kore one was hard to come up with a melody for with what I have right now, but I figured out how to finally set up things so I can add more pitches, which you can tell from the Halloween one. The Piano sound was one of two options I had, so I had to use that one. Could do better if I had my keyboard or access to a Piano and a way to record it to the laptop, as I can actually play that theme on all of them.
The bass part was low on some I know, because through laptop speakers it was sounding like crap when any deep bas would hit, so I took it out at first, but then I hooked up some head phones and it sounded a lot better, so the later songs have more bass. The album has 18 songs like I said and a lot of the improvements are on it because I figured out how to line things up better and come up with more stuff, and a lot more bass.
I use one song to test the speakers in the car now as it's mainly bass with a little melody. So yea I did have improvements ready for when I had better speakers so I added them in.
The Monster Bash Tanz one I did with head phones on the whole time which is why it actually has bass that sounds like it should be there more so, and then went back and redid some tracks but put both versions on the CD in case anyone wondered how it sounded before.
Tonight I started working on a Rock-A-Billy song just to see if I could pull that off with synth, and oddly enough, I did. I used a picked violin sound and took a bass slap sound and shortened the length down and added a snare drum and a shaker sound to make the stand up bass song, and then added a steel guitar. Sounds pretty neat so far.
Anyway, thanks again. Once I'm back in Michigan and have my instruments and stuff I can make more styles of music.
Hell just today I got a mic to work so I can do my own samples and vocals with the app I use.
I just finished a song I was working on earlier called "Digital Horror Punk".
The song starts out with an intro I made, and it's kind of quiet because it's like 2:30 in the morning and my Wife is asleep so I couldn't really talk in a normal tone of voice when I recorded it, so just a heads up, when you listen to it, after the intro, you may want to turn the speakers down a bit because the song itself is recorded at a normal level.
I may change it later on though when loudness isn't an issue and I can talk normal, so I might re-record the intro, and re-upload it, but listen to it first and see if it sounds better with the intro being quiter than the rest of the song. I duno, it gives it a more creepy feel to it I think, so I may not change anything, but if enough people say to change it to make the song better overall I might.
Anyway, go check it out, and give feed back.
-gore
I couldn't even hear the intro. I had it turned up loud enough to where it scared the crap out of me when the actual song started... and I still can't find my cat... she took off running with her ears tucked back... so I would definitely recommend making the intro a little louder... as for now, I have to go study for my drug test. :D
OK, I redid the intro, I still don't think it's loud enough but I'll deal with that later, had a long day already but I took the 10 minutes to redo that part, so now the intro is there and a little more clear but I'll probably do it again to make it louder. But at least now it's something you can actually hear.
Ok I fixed the intro to that new song, so now you can hear what I'm saying and not blow a speaker.
Just a heads up:
I redid the layout of my band myspace and took down some songs to make room for new things I've been working on. If you liked anything I've done you should REALLY love the new stuff since I finally figured out how to make a full song worth of music on just one instrument using a Piano roller that lets me go way past the amount of timing generally used by default with the app, so now I have songs that actually have more to them, more notes, and more things added in.
I uploaded two new songs I worked on and leave them open for comment.
Digital Horror Punk
The Dead Walk
Those are both new songs I uploaded so go check those out as they are getting cloer and closer to my overall goal of what sound I'm looking to make.
I may cut down the number of samples in the Dead walk or at least change them around and add some different ones in, but let me know what you think :)
I thought 'Dead Walk' was pretty good... I would suggest cutting down on some of the samples... or maybe put the long one at either the beginning or end, and just have it in there once... but that is just my opinion... I still couldn't make out what you were saying at the beginning of 'Digital Horror Punk'... I could hear something... but not clearly enough to understand... maybe I need to adjust my GEQ settings...
Thanks, I was thinking almost the same thing with the samples. I think professionals call that the amateurs mistake of sampling; you do a song with it for the first time and use way to many heh.
I was trying to line up the samples in a way where it wasn't interrupting the flow but again, being the first time, I'm not great at it.
when I did the song and finished it I was like OK this is decent, I should add some type of intro from a Horror movie, and I had already named it The dead Walk, so I just grabbed some from Night of the living Dead.
That movie is public domain so it's easier to grab samples freely so I grabbed the ones I liked best and went with them, and played the song thinking hmm, OK the part here would sound good if I added one, and maybe here...
And at the beginning of it I liked the one of Barbara and so I did go with that, but once it was done I had a really long one and I'm thinking almost exactly what you said "**** this would have been better if I had put it as the intro.... damn" so I uploaded it so see if anyone else was thinking the same thing.
I do like the samples, but I agree on the number of them being high and the spots could be placed better.
Every song I've made and the way I do the samples, is with free and open source software as I've said I can't afford a program that costs a bunch of cash right now, but I'll be glad when I had a guitar hooked up so I can do that.
I'm also going to look for a better mic as I know the one I'm using isn't top of the line, but it doesn't suck flat out either. I think the problem with my voice at the beginning isn't so much volume but confidence related. so I know I can do that one better, and I don't plan on even releasing that album for a while so I have time to test it out before I burn it to CD for sale anyway so all the feed back I get I take and think over to see what was working and what needed work.
Thanks seriously, to everyone in this thread, it's been very helpful as it's the first time I've ever done this. I've been making music for years now, and I have a **** load of songs I've made and some with my cousin Matt like a few years ago on Halloween when I uploaded the wav files of us playing around and people did enjoy some of it, but right now I'm going for something different. This isn't just me screwing around making music for my friends, this is people messaging me on Myspace now asking how they can buy it... which si new to me. I'm not used to people thinking it's good enough to buy it off me, so I'm pushing myself harder in making it good so I came here to tell everyone about where to listen to it, and knew that here, I would not only get more people going and listening to the music but if someone thought something sucked I knew no one here was going to hold it back, specially the people who don't like me lol.
Anyway, a big thanks to everyone for the input thus far, I do take it and remember when I make something new. and if I ever somehow make it big, well, I'll thank you on the album or if I REALLY make it I'll be sure to t hank you in a paper way lol.
gore... I can relate on the confidence thing... just scream it :) ... maybe even from across the room... that is what I had to do with the harmonica for a while... I would just walk away from the computer and play along with something... the mic still picked it up... I usually use Cool Edit Pro for winxp... it is an old version, before adobe bought it out and started charging outrageous prices... still works well... up to 128 tracks I think... I have made some crazy stuff with the backtracking feature... I was actually reading parts from musicians friend's return policy... along with keyboard and guitar...some of that was backtracked too though...
What's up gore, long time. I think the music is pretty cool. Not really my thing but it's sounding cool. You'll get much better. Comments like that suck when you get them and years later you realize how true it was. Keep at it for sure. Hey dude do you still have any of the fiction work you used to post? Hook me up if you do, if you would please. Later man.
I save everything I write so usually yea, if it's been posted here though then it's easier to search for it on here with the advanced search option and just look for it in tech humor.
Some of the new music I've been working on is... well, weird. I made something I can't really describe not to long ago, it has a stand up bass sound which I had to use a plucked violin for downtuned to crap, and then added a distorted steel guitar and a drum beat and then another heavier steel guitar distorted again, and THEN added in two electric bass styles to it. One slapped and the other is just normal sounding, and then added in drums and... I guess it sounds like Johnny Cash + punk mixed together with techno lol.
It's weird and I haven't uploaded it because it's no where near complete but it is kinda cool.
OK, fixed up The Dead Walk, cleaned up the sound over all and changed all the samples around so the flow isn't being screwed with stops. I left the one in the beginning and one after that, but the rest I took out, re-arranged, and mixed it in with the track so that it doesn't stop the actual music from playing, and that works because it's what I wanted to do from the start with that song anyway, and I just an hour ago figured out how the hell to do it... I'm so going to bed now, I've been up since yesterday morning and my ribs are killing me.
Night all, Hope you like the new version.
Just an update, I finished a new song and uploaded it a minute ago, so if you liked or didn't like what I was doing go check it out. The new song is called "Bestrafe Mich mit Ihr Zunge" which is German for "Punish me with your tongue".
Thanks,
-gore
Gore, great music man!
The Wolfman enjoys the dark industrial sounds you've created. But I've got to ask. What do you use to create your sounds? Ableton Live? Reason?
Thanks dude. The music was all made on my laptop with OpenSUSE 10.2 and I used LMMS to make all the music, and then MHWaveEdit when I wanted to put in samples or do recording myself.
For example, a movie I highly recommend especially to you, is called Wild Zero (Japanese Horror movie with Guitar Wolf, the whole movie is basically Rock-A-Billy mixed with The Ramones, Dawn of the Dead, and Space Invaders all in one, GREAT movie) I recorded a few things from that and the original Dawn of the Dead with MHWave Edit, and then once I had a song finished, I exported it as a wav file, opened it with MHWaveEdit, and then added in the samples.
I'm getting better at that so it doesn't sound so crappy and stuff as it did before, not that it's professionally done or anything, but I can tell I've done a better job with it, so I keep making music and upload it whenever I make something new.
Hell, I made a Rock-a-Billy song I haven't uploaded because I'm out of space on there and haven't added any vocals using the steel guitar sample LMMS comes with and using a picked Violin at a lower tuning to sound like a stand up bass, and then added a snare drum hit at each note to make it sound like I was playing stand up bass on it with the guitar, and then added a distortion to some of the guitar and more drums and things to make it a mix of punk and Rock-A-Billy, but I haven't added any vocals so I haven't uploaded it as of yet.
I mixed that with electronic and just named it "Digital-Billy" lol.
I uploaded a new song just now to my Myspace Music page called "I'm Master of Digital Horror" and I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. Anyway, go check it out and let me know what you think,
Thanks,
-gore
Just an update that has nothing to do with new songs, but if you like Horror movies you've probably heard of Rue Morgue magazine, and Rue Morgue Radio.
In the next month or two I might be given a little section in there after a few staff members went to my Myspace after I emailed a few people from the staff asking them what they thought, and apparently a couple of them loved it. So they're going to try and put something about me in their magazine !!!!!
Needless to say I'm still in shock.
The actual editor of the magazine, the main editor, actually emailed me after my Myspace page was getting passed around the office and said as soon as I have Cds that aren't CD-Rs I custom draw things on, to send one in for sure and they'll add me in.
I was shocked to even get a responce from anyone considering that magazine isn't small, let alone them saying they liked particular songs they had listened to but I figured what the hell it's worth a shot, and it payed off.
I'm not even sure where to have CDs made, I'm so used to the punk DIY thing that ordering copies of my music is something I'm not even sure of how to do. I just export as wav files, and then burn it to CD once I figure out how I want the tracks laid down on the album, and so now I'm going to try and figure out who to have do this professionally and what to have the design as.
My idea was has a German flag on the CD, like the top part being Black, the middle being Red and the Bottom being Gold colored, with the band name in logo form, the album name, and my logo for Digital Horror stamped on and having the thing that says CD-R re-designed so it's on the CD itself too, because I always added a logo of my own to the R in CD-R ;)
Anyway just a heads up in case you read it.
Just a quick update, I took down "Bestrafe mich mit Ihr Zunge" (Punish me with your tongue in German) and uploaded a remix of it I did after realizing that second high pitched sound gets REALLY annoying after the second or 3rd time hearing it, so I opened the project track, edited that out, made a new sound to go with the track, then made a drum beat to go with the new sound to replace the annoying one that all went together without sounding to bad.
I also made it free to download the whole track and I'll get it uploaded on SNOcap in case it's worth 79 cents or so to anyone, and I finally figured out how to edited prices on there, so I lowered them all. (It wasn't easy, I was looking everywhere and it doesn't show you how, finally I realized clicking on the songs themselves opens up an editor that lets you change the price from 99 cents, and then you have to save it, save the price, then save it again for each track and it finally saved the new prices) so I lowered every price, made some 59 cents, and made some 79 or 89 cents max.
Anyway, enjoy.
I'd like a copy too Gore
once you have your paypal setup [only just seen this, so I do not intend spending too long checking back into the thread] but hell yeah, once you have a CD you are happy with  drop me a PM, and choose the price
and as a selling point
personal art CD =
Yea I liked the idea of drawing it on there myself. I mean it's not hard to really have like a few hundred copies done professionally, but that right now isn't my only option, I'm not a big rock star or something where I'm making 2,000,000 copies, so right now I'm still just doing it by hand and hand drawing on the logo I made and adding some other stuff depending on which brand of CDs I go with, like adding on the name of the album hand drawn how I wanted it, and it's fun to line up tracks and mixing.
Once I have more time and we're not spending most days cleaning and getting the house done the way we want I can make some newer tracks other than the last one I did and do the Refill album which has already a bunch of new stuff and not just Industrial style, like one song is basically Rock-A-Billy but with electronic stuff, I think I called it Digitalbilly, and it's all done with the app, I used a distorted steel guitar and wrote the guitar parts, and then used the drum samples to make a Ramones or Misfits style of drums to go with that and used a picked Violin sample I down tuned and added in a snare drum hit from the side which hits every time it's used which makes it sound exactly like a stand up bass.
I also added in an electric bass to it and the only thing really not there is vocals I guess. I could probably just pick a song I've written or write one to go with it and record it.
One thing I also did, was the first 10 or so copies I made, I numbered them. Heh if I ever do make it big, whoever has like #2 is going to be RICH. I kept The first one I burned and they're marked to show not only that it's the second one ever or third one or whatever number it is, but I would change those ones so it would be easy to tell which number and burn session it was that it was made on.
I though that was cool because I know if I had the first recording of Horror Business or something by The Misfits I'd be wetting myself.
The price part is a little different, if someone comes up to me and I sell them one, it's about 5 dollars that I charge which is enough to buy more CDs to burn more copies, and make a few dollars off of it. Which is why the Myspace page prices are even cheaper because I'm not paying for CDs to burn copies to, so I tried to be fair about it and not stingy or greedy. One of them on there I set the price for at 59 cents, if I sell that one I get 20 cents from it.
I set them on price basically on how good the song went. If someone is like wow that's awesome or something and I know I worked hard to make it good, then it's like 79 cents. (They're in increments of 9 because SNOcap takes 39 cents and I have OCD and want it to even out lol).
Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone !
New song up, called SlackWareWolf, I think Wolfman is going to LOVE that lol.
Gore!! Awesome track man! This is one of the Wolfmans favorites so far. Since this track is so fangtastic, do you mind if I put it on the Wolfman's homepage??
If you do come out with a CD, let me know. I will buy one for sure!
Good stuff man, keep it up!
Sure, just give me credit and maybe a link to my myspace ;)
Absolutely Gore. I would never take someone else's music without giving full credit and a link to the source.
I'll let you know when it's online.
Awesome, I got some pretty good feedback on it on Myspace too, and it's only been up since like yesterday night. I started that song while I was sitting here and when I started adding to it I really liked it because at first I was just messing around and then it started coming together so I added another drum beat and then I wanted to add something to the howls I had in it, so I found some glass breaking wavs and screaming and put it together to make it sound like a Werewolf breaking into a house and attacking people.
I like it lol.
I did too on an occasion or two. Weird kid, but makes good points from time to time.Quote:
I was the only one who ever stood up for him
Ooooooh I'll have to check this out when I get home. I can dig some good industrial stuff. Sheesh...I haven't touched my guitar in nearly a year, I feel horrible about that. Definitely a new year's resolution to pick it back up.
Back in the day I just used Windows audio recorder...could only record 30 seconds at a time, drove me nuts. :P
You know, there was a way to get around that...Quote:

I knew about that, the first time I made music I was doing clips under a minute, and then figured that out, and got it too about 2 minutes, and that was mostly because I couldn't afford a non demo version of Orion so I just recorded through the mic, which was kind of crap sounding but it worked.
I wish I had time to mess around with music. The bad guys keep me way too busy with their hax0ring...
lol

Does anyone remember Impulse Tracker? Those were the good ol'days.
Horsey you've done music before in a bigger level lol.
so like, do any of the things I've made just suck? Some of them I re-did just because I thought "Damn this blows right here AND here" and I'd end up removing the track from Myspace and redoing the thing.
Oh Horsey make sure to tell the youngins about it, that way if they like it I can make them nag at you until you buy it ;)
New song up:
Zombie Cash
Nice one Gore! The Wolfman likes and approves. :) :)
Thanks, I really like the drums in that one.
