Use a scanner fine. You don't need on demand though. Just don't open it, download it and scan it. On demand is not needed.
I got negs and this crap with it!!!!
During surfin the web scan on demand is a must have!
Just click on a link and i got Resur.b so getting negs makes no sense!
I would just like to clarify, and work out some crusial differenses.

Virus: Can replicate it self, and Preform Arbituary task's. It can not spread from system to system on it's own, but can infect Floopy's and obtain accses that way.
NOT ALL VIRUSES BEHAVE LIKE THIS!
Worm: Mainly meant to carry a MSG or Payload over several system's quickly.
They often Carry Harmfull Payload's, and can spread through many different way's of Transfere. (Cross LAN, IRC, MAPI, MSN, ICQ and more)
I hope this is correct, and that it clears up a few things :D
