I think a programm who can think of it's own is possible to create,b ut not by human.. Human have to find out some algorithm to logic and then write a programm who writes a programm. I don't say it right because I don't know ebough words, but I hope someone understands :D

On the subject of books, I would mildly recommend Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Interesting weird conglomeration of a bunch of things, but very techy.
